As a trip from London to Yorkshire is barely achievable perhaps we suggest it for one of those epic Grand Tour roadtrip/races. Clarkson in a mini, May in a diesel cayenne and Hammond on the train. I reckon it would need to be at least a 2 parter. It could be like a home coming for Clarkson as they triumphantly drive in to Doncaster after dealing with all the crazy things the M1 or A1 could throw at them.

I like your optimism, but would all 3 or any of them actually make it to Yorkshire? This isn’t navigating South America or getting to the North Pole, this is 180ish miles of m1 in modern cars. I’m guessing this might be the trip that actually finished hammmond off.

My mum, who is 78, will happily drive from Cambridge to Bristol and back to visit grandkids............in a Nissan Micra snot box!

I’m pretty sure I’d get a bit sniffy about driving that far in that car so perhaps I ought to marry Dave?

Good point, some of the M1 services are pretty rough so lets hope they don't stop for a sandwich.

Maybe Dave left so he could go and make sure his custom RV build was coming along nicely for the trip?

No, its not that far, and for all of those with long distance trucker style wives, I'm sure this is the equivalent of just nipping round the corner for a new set of dungarees.

Has he taken it on the chin?

As the only person on the thread that actually knows the two women involved, you have to believe me that allowing them to share the (yes, yes, modest amount of) driving would be better option, and I remain surprised that no insurance company seems willing to provide cover.
He's not addressed any of the issues (eg, what's wrong with the mini, why are his wife and daughter incapable of everyday tasks, what is the need to take the bigger car, etc) which made the original post so incredible.

And presumably the insurance company refusing cover know something we don't!

So, you're going to cost yourself and your daughter, cash and a faffing pain in the arse because your wife doesn't fancy a drive on some motorways in a Cayenne 3.0D/MINI?

Unless she's disabled in some way and requires upmost comfort and accessibility by depole then that's understandable. But if not, then WTF are you doing to the general public?
