Very nice. I spend an unhealthy amount of time looking 'for sale ads' of Subaru Legacy / Outbacks of that era. Perfect under-the-radar estates.

I spent 12 months browsing the Japanese classifieds to find this one smile

Wow.
Wow indeed.
Wow threed.

According to your garage it's the B5 too, absolute perfection. I'd love to get one after the E63 when they come down in price. What's it like?
In a word: effortless

The closest thing I think I've driven to it is a Rolls Royce Wraith. It doesn't bang, pop or shout. It just flows across the tarmac. It encourages you to drive it smoothly. It's when you catch up to slower traffic, often obviously not trying to be slower traffic, that you realise the pace it carries.

In Sport it's more comfortable than my old 340i was in Comfort. The gearbox calibration is a work of art; the suspension likewise. It's not trying to be a sports car. It's trying to be the most luxurious BMW estate, just one that happens to be capable of going more than 200 mph. I suspect it gets to that speed with little fuss, and I suspect you can have a nice conversation with your passengers whilst doing so.
I love the whole ethos behind Alpina's. I got quite excited when I went to Bicester show last autumn and there was a small array of them parked up. Understated but hugely capable.

I wasnt sure if it was a trick of the light on black paint or not.
Perhaps it's also a trick of the light that's making it look decidedly non estate-like

Great assessment - that could be written word for word (except the 200mph bit - a measley 175+ is all it can muster) for the E39 B10 V8 Touring...

Big Alpina estates started with the E34 - first with a 4.0 then a 4.6, here's the only rhd car...

I think that strikes a nice balance between handsome and macho. The alloys give it a nice stance and seem to be quite uncommon on this model? What is it, mister?

Do love the looks of these, especially without the big 19s on them. thumbup

Pricing all over the place at the moment though and I'm finding it hard to ignore the Leon Cupra for the same money with 300bhp, AWD and virtual cockpit Vs a vRS with a bigger boot (which is the main requirement!) and a more discreet demeanour!

Was this purchased recently from one of the online auction sites? It's a fine and rare beast.
