For some reason, this particular variant of SUV is somewhat less offensive to my aesthetic tastes than the equivalent X6 or GLE. While I'm not an SUV lover at all (and even less so of these SUV coupe vehicles), if I was forced to choose, it'd probably be this one.
I think it's to do with the 'feminine' Porsche styling - it's so much nicer than the ugly 'butch-to-the-point-of-campness' styling the others are doing. All too YMCA for me.

Other honourable exceptions are the P-Face, Stevie-O and the one with the Hungarian forename - Lev.

Car manufacturers can call their cars whatever they like but I think anyone that knows anything about cars will be able to tell you what cars are coupes.
The E30 bmw came in 4 and 2 door which was not a coupe then along came the E36 which also came in 4 and 2 door which was a coupe.
The VW Scirocco was a coupe the 2door Golf was not.
Ford Escort 2 door was not a coupe the Capri was.

You could go on and on but the cars like the Cayenne, and 4 door “coupes” from BMW and Merc are NOT.

I dont understand why people get so worked up about SUV's and want anyone that needs a bit of extra space to think only of an estate car - any other option ist verbotten!

I had a P38 4.6HSE Range Rover for 6 months - an itch to scratch as my first words as a toddler were Rrrrange Rrrrover I think. But yes with only a baby at the time it was a bit of a lumbering, inefficient, expensive, unreliable behemoth. So itch scratched time to shift it on (cracked the block en-route to next owner but that's another story...). I think this car justifies a lot of the hate here!

But how anyone can get upset about a RAV4 or Quashqai or Q3/5 or even Macan I have no idea, or really an X5 or a Cayenne. I dare anyone to drive a Macan and not say it handles & rides better than a lot of sporty estate cars - certainly in a different ride/handling/fun/practicality/comfort league to my previous 535d Touring (RFT's + 19" + awful EPAS redfacemad). It weighs much the same as the 535d and is twice the power, double the mpg and half the emissions of that old V8 4.6 HSE (ish). I love it - its never the short straw ploddy DD for the dog/kids/bikes/luggage/snow ridden driveway!

The only thing I don't like about that Cayenne is the price - ouch! Great family car and they are dynamically excellent too as the piece sayssmile Whats not to love enthusiast fellow parents with big dogs!? smile

Why all the fuss? It’s just a large Macan!

Check the technical drawings of each. Both cars have the same slope angle from the top midpoint of roof to rear screen dip angle. Now the Macan isn’t called a coupe but this is? Not sure why.

Incidentally the Range Rover Evoque coupe is the 2/3 door version but as well as having fewer doors than it’s normal SUV sibling also has a more sloping roofline.

So whether you need <4 doors AND a sloping roofline to qualify as a Coupe or not ... Porsche seem to have an element of inconsistency between the naming of their Macan non-coupe and this new Cayenne Coupe. Both have the same slope and same doors.

Can someone explain why one is a coupe and the other not?

The labeling is all a bit strange. V5 calls my Macan an 'Estate'. I consider it a slightly leggier hatchback. So, its not an SUV, its an estate after all! Except its not - the rear tailgate glass infringes the luggage space too much as its a bit coupe like! confusedrotate

Never mind all of this "What is and what isn't a coupe" nonsense. The real question concerning this latest Cayenne variant to which everyone wants to know the answer is this.....

Will it transport an exceptionally posh mother and daughter from North London to Yorkshire in the style to which they are accustomed without overly taxing the delicate stamina of the missus on such a long and harrowing journey?

Furthermore, can a 23-year-old be insured to drive it?
