The torque figure is wrong and it's why you don't want an automatic . The 5 speed Geartronic were limited to 258 lbs ft , significantly less than the manuals , which is what the stated figures are actually for.

I pulled apart a damaged 2009 2.5T AWD a while ago, I thought it was very very well built. (I used the engine, autobox and seats in our XC90 family barge)

This will make you want an AWD S60:

Never knew they used Volvos as reconnaissance cars for the rallys.

Very interesting.

Totally different car in every possible sense, bar the badge...

I’ve had a gunmetal grey manual V70R for about a year so far after ~11 years with a V70 D5.
It’s a great sleeper car, no-one expects an old barge to shift like it does.
I’ve overhauled the 4C suspension and sorted out a few niggles, many which could be contributed to neglect by previous owners!
As I WFH these days and have other cars available also, the poor MPG isn’t a problem - it’s always entertaining to drive.

I have one of these, probably one of the comfiest cars ever.

To suggest that a T5 is comparable is bizarre. The AWD system and adjustable suspension is excellent as is the dolby stereo etc. Such a surefooted car whilst being surprisingly quick, the brembo brakes are also very good. All these bits along with the lively 18inch alloys and fancy blue dials are missing from a podgy and plain T5 as is around 60bhp.

Mine is probably worth less than half the one in the article. Will probably sell soon and expect to get around £3500 but then it has done almost 150k miles.

I don't think it's that the T5 is comparable, more that it's a good chunk cheaper than a lot of Rs. You could buy a T5, add bigger brakes, more power etc and have a car that's pretty good, but without the worries associated with the AWD system. I'm sure an R is still better, but the value element makes a T5 appealing.

Yours is a lovely colour. My D5 was that colour and, if I had a V70R, that's definitely the colour I'd want. Rare though it seems.

My 2p

I had a S60 2Ltr SE Turbo Auto, for over 10 years, 115k miles & engine fine, but what killed it was electrics starting to go. Instrument readings disappeared, so had unit replaced, then later on alarm started coming on for no reason now & then. It stopped for a year, then got worse.

Both main dealer & Indy didnt watch to touch it. Said it was either the secondary battery to the alarm failing, causing default mode of alarm going off constantly, or something worse up with the system. Probably all with same system will end up with this issue?

Great tourer, 25mpg usually, max was 30mpg on a run, good stereo, fantastic seats, heavy front end & turned like an oil tanker. I think up to 2006 it's all Volvo, then had a lot of Ford creeping in, as they owned them.

Miss that car, & glad ones like these are still around.
My D5 used to come up with an alarm fault and the alarm would often go off, though the siren wouldn't sound. I believe a lot of the issues are caused by water ingress into the siren unit.

Had one of these from 18 months old - after the massive depreciation (42k-ish with options bought for 18k). Fantastic car, mine was auto in black with that leather - great combo. Remember playing on an icy road flooring the accelerator and the 4wd just moving it ahead seamlessly yet a few months later on a dry road switching suspension to advanced and keeping up with a friend's boxster. Disadvantages were embarrassing turning circle (slightly wider than a spiral multistory ramp resulting in a reverse move, 23ish mpg at best and the front spoiler had a hidden lower bit in the middle which grounded out (had it reformed so it didn't). Great quality and superb stereo plus a complete Q car on the motorway.

Miss it still...
