The topic is about new cars, not used.
There is no shortage of these cars. They are simply bought by speculators with a view to selling on at a profit. They stillhave full manufacturer warranty.

All the stuff about "you can't get one" usually comes from people who haven't the slightest intention of buying an £80k car in the first place.
The invoice for my current car says £76,000. I posted that I can’t get a GT4. Porsche Tewkesbury have confirmed this.

Neither Porsche Cardiff, nor Porsche Bristol were interested in selling me one. They had a combined total of 5 718 GT4's allocated and was told my best chances were buying on the resale market.

Funny enough, the salesman in Porsche Cardiff mentioned one of the factors they consider in who gets one was "losing money on our other cars". Which to me sounds like they're intentionally selling to people who intend to sell them at a mark up.

It's interesting to hear from you as one of the disappointed customers who really wanted a new £80k Porsche but wasn't allowed to buy one.

Which dealerships turned you away?

Good effort. Obviously you cannot separate anyone being critical of a marque (which you obviously feel the need to protect) with the fact that Porsche set out to stimulate interest by restricting supply. Read the comments of those who are trying to buy an unobtainable car, frankly, it's poor form.

I wouldn't personally bother with the Cayman GT4, I'd rather something else. But the fact remains, like it or not, that Porsche are the Rolex of the car world.

But the tale above, 'if the Sales Manager wanted to sell to me', it's a model stuck in yesteryear. We are talking about an 80K car, not a 1M hypercar?

Strange logic for sure.

Ha it's good to see you finally giving in to your inner closet desires of owning a Porsche GT. biggrin:

What model would you suggest Porsche adopt to improve their business and PR image? I am sure they would listen. hehe

I've never discounted owning one, but I would rather deal with a manufacturer who doesn't play games. Years ago I went to buy a 911. I booked an appointment at Silverstone, which was a PITA as I was busy. Upon arrival, the Sales Manager, was not there, heavy night apparently, he never bothered to call it off, I wish he had I was just back into the UK after a stint away. I was left to my own devices looking around. Long story short, I bought an NSX instead, and will to this day never return to an OPC.

GIven that they don't make a car I really desire anyway, it's irrelevant. But to put press cars out there, then have this BS approach to selling them is, very Porsche.

Given the hoops you have to jump through to get one sure feels limited!
Maybe in the UK...but not from my experience (see a couple of posts above).
People primarily want the car at UK prices which are lower than euro equivalent prices even if they could get rhd cars as for some peculiar reason people who seemingly want the car very badly simply won't countenance paying the extra EU premium to get it....

It's perceived 'free motoring' that's driving the mad scrabble of the GT cars here really.
True; but it's only some sort of free motoring if you sell it after a couple of years. If you keep it for a rather long time (and actually use it a lot), the potential resale value does not have that much of an mental effect. But I can imagine not a lot of people do this.
