P.s. Let’s hope that the Touring Package materialises on this GT4.

And yet a friend of mine's first Porsche was a GT4. He put his name down after it was announced, got told he was a long way down the list. A few months later got a call to come in and spec it as a few people had pulled out and promptly took delivery.

Great, a Porsche that interests me, but I won’t be allowed to buy one.

1. Tongue not brown enough
2. I don’t buy multiple Porsvhes a year because I’m a normal person
3. I’m not prepared to pay the prices the flippers charge

I am finding all the hype about fast Porsche’s pointless and irrelevant for the above reasons.

Plus , it must be bloody heavy because 0-60 in 4.4 for 420bhp isn’t great, Alpine do it with 300bhp and Lotus get the Evora 410 to 60mph in 3.9 with 410bhp.

Those performance figures look very conservative to me, unless of course the manual box is not easy to launch.. however 0-60 is not what this is about, it will have awesome dynamics and that engine will be superb.

to be fair the 981 GT4 was a difficult act to follow.
It’s great that they haven’t just gone for masses of power although I do realise the only reason for not doing so is they don’t want it to tread on big brothers shoes.
Manual and N/A is to be applauded.
I wander if they listened to feedback and have sorted the gear ratios out?

Isn't the 4.4 secs (and it's probably conservative) probably due to it being manual?

This long gear ratio myth needs busting. I don't find the gear ratios a problem at all.

And as for the person saying he hopes 981 GT4 values fall... well they will as only so many people want or appreciate cars like this and Porsche will be adding to the overall number of pocket rockets on the market. I'd rather my 981 value stays high, but I am unperturbed if they do fall... I am not selling. And I am not anxious to get a brand new one either.

Good luck to people on the wait list and ENJOY. If you get one DRIVE IT!!!

Would love either, and could probably afford one if I swapped two cars for it, but I've got zero chance of getting on the list.

Hopefully this will knock a decent amount of the value of the previous GT4, but I suspect not as the 718 GT4 will be offered at a significant premium by the flippers so the old GT4 will still look good value even at today's prices.

I'd rather get an Evora or Exige now. Similar performance, similar driving dynamics but worse engine and cabin. Think I can live with that.

Lotus get the Elise to 60mph in 3.9 seconds with just 250bhp.

I nearly bought a 2016 GT4 a month or so ago. Lovely car.

Dealer says the current GT4 will remain strongly priced, and may even bounce up again on the back of the new GT4. He openly admitted this will be due to flippers getting cars, and even without driving them, advertising them for sale for £30k+ premium.

This should keep the current car strong until the market levels out in 2/3 years for this new car.

Before I even asked, he said no chance in getting one, as the allocation he gets will go to his best customers. Fair enough. I don't mind if genuine owners get to buy these cars, but why does it seam like it's only the speculators and Vloggers who get these cars? No doubt Shmee150, Mr JWW, and alike will all have one straight away.

Only reason why I didn't buy it was the other half wasn't keen on being driven around in a road racer. So now waiting for the right spec Carrera T or wait longer and hope the prices of Carrera 4 GTS's fall to a level I can afford.

Have been advised that manual gearing stays the same to keep on the right side of emissions regulations.

Spoke to a dealer today that said he received 100+ email enquires about it overnight. And that’s just one dealer. Seems like there is significantly more hype on this one than before.

Key question is whether they made it sound decent with the new emissions filters. Promo Video sounds OK but that could of course be “enhanced”

I have a 981 Spyder & Exige 430 CUP. They are in no way similar. The are both 2 of the best cars money can buy IMHO of owning 30+ sports & supercars. The Spyder is so well resolved, great to drive, amazing on road and track. The Exige is on another level though, McLaren acceleration (in gear), race car handing and 100% concentration to drive, its a real event! While on paper they seem similar in reality they are not really comparable. The Exige has a lovely engine, it sounds crazy with a sports exhaust. Chris Harris drove my car and said it was the best sounding car he had ever driven! Both are 5* cars but go about their business in different ways.

I second this. I like the 'slightly' longer gear ratios. It gives you a chance the rev the car out and savour the rising revs. I don't like the multi geared DSG, bang - bang - bang into gears a split second apart, You may be going faster but there is no rising anticipation. Having just driven 3,000 miles in 2 weeks in my Spyder around the South of Rance, Dolomites & Germany I never found the gearing too long. 2nd and 3rd most of the time in the alpine passes with a few 1st gear hairpins (easy with the rev match). The gearing is very well judged for the car IMHO.

Looks absolutely fabulous and will try and pick one up either in allocation or when the first silly flipper money for those who absolutely have to have the latest car NOW has eroded.

In the meantime - 981 GT4 is still one of the best cars I've ever driven, and really not sure how much better the new one is going to be as an ownership prospect until I have driven the 718. Looking forward to that day.

For those who don't have a GT4 yet and want a do it all sports car - go out and take a look at the 981. It's really rather special and due to the fact the 718 will be 100K plus for the next year or so I'd say the glacial depreciation will continue. Get one bought and enjoy it!
