I started reading this article and began to think...ooh this looks worth considering....then as I read more and more about it, I realised that as an actual ownership proposition, this is a car no one will want to maintain; at least not outside of warranty. This is one hideously complicated car so will be good only for people prepared to fritter away their pennies on its first three-year-lease and then dispose of.
mine spent 4 months in a workshop with the engine out waiting for the revised 'cure the clunking' gearboxhate to think what that would cost out of warranty
glad to see it has a new box

420 bhp and 168 top speed??
155 limited and you need to pay extra to go faster?
Ha! Step in the Civic Type R, 169 mph, goodbye
155 = German gentleman's agreement for autobahns?155 limited and you need to pay extra to go faster?

i assume 169mph is the rating of the tyre
this is not new thou as it was an option on my car 3 years ago

Honda don’t charge you 45k+ to do 155 and then make you pay extra to go faster, you pay 34 and you get to go 169 with over 100 bhp less, cheers i assume 169mph is the rating of the tyre

I never quite get the scorn some on here have for 'hatchbacks'. As though they are in some way unworthy of being great cars like coupes or saloons. Why can't a fairly bespoke performance hatchback be £60k plus? Why is this 'worse' or more 'lowly' than a £60k performance saloon, estate or coupe? I don't particularly want, nor could I afford, an A45s, but I don't see a problem with it competing against cars of other body types in the 50-70k price bracket.

Because they’re some fake exhausts and an over used grille away from a 180 pm model which will have 3 cylinders. A bespoke model would be an A45 that is an A45 and nothing else.
Couldnt you say the same about BMW m series cars, Audi RS cars and many others? They're all based on cheaper base platforms but then have almost everything tweaked to make them into performance beasts. Not saying people have to love them, just don't get the difference. The only cars that aren't like that are bespoke sports cars, but they are mainly a lot more than £60k! (with the exception of things like mx5s, alpines).

You could indeed.I think it ‘s because people are a bit silly and care more about others judging them in the way they judge others’ purchase decisions rather than whether the car suits their needs or not.
The whole “ but people might think it’s an A180” summarises things neatly .........

No doubt the Mark 8 Golf R will have 400hp as rumoured to join the BMW 140 with 400hp.
Thought VW had said they weren't entering that territory with the Golf R?The engine will produce between 380 and 400hp.
With a Focus ST having 280 and many hot hatches producing 300 now it's to be expected that the R will step up its game.

421 Bhp!
The German horsepower war continues, where will it end?

Which is the significantly cheaper competitor to the A35, which has 302 bhp.The German horsepower war continues, where will it end?

A45 AMG is a full M/Audi RS competitor, as it should be at 50k and up, 15 or so grand over the new M135i.
As for the horsepower war, it will be interesting to see where BMW go, they now have the 4wd platform but have lost 2 cylinders, the new M3/4 is 500 bhp ish, so there is a gap that the M2 Comp doesnt really fill as its similar power and price but RWD only, they dont have a 4wd A45/RS3 type answer at the moment.
This looks ace but its sooo much money, wont see many as you cant get the cost effective leases and deals on the A45 like you can/did on the Golf R/M140i etc, will be a rare sight I expect.

The A45 is a special car but only when it’s new and the only model offered as there will be a quicker better version out within 6 years. You could say the same thing about the cars higher up but every M3 and RS4 has something unique about them that kept them special.
Having said that, it appears all super saloons are headed in the same direction, AWD and twin turbo.
You could say my argument is useless but It took a lot of thought to type this so it’s here to stay.
I wouldnt say your arguments useless, it's your opinion and that's fine. I'm not even making an argument, just commenting that a lot of enthusiasts dismiss hatchbacks compared to other forms of performance cars and I don't know why. I always think it's telling when you hear people with loads of cars saying what their favourite is - didn't Pete on here (who seems to have or have had nearly every great performance car ever!) say his favourite was his abarth 500?
The reality is, all of these modern cars are more or less them same. A 3cyl turbo, 2.0 4 pot turbo, 3.0 V6 and some for of 4.something V8. All AWD, all with an auto box, all look more or less the same, all probably drive about the same, all sound about the same, all cost about the same. Sure there's a few manuals left in there and sure there's a few slight variations on the engine displacement, but I don't see what the point is in getting so riled up about them when they're all pretty much the same. I hate the A Class a little more than I hate everything else simply because of the people I usually see driving them, but they're pretty much the same as everything else. It's really just an argument about which shade of grey is best at this point, no real difference and no real winner. I'll exclude the Civic Type R from that because it's one of the only cars that you really couldn't mistake for something else.

Not to mention the fastest FWD and hot hatch in the world Even faster than a 420 bhp AMG A-Class

Not only that, the chassis should something else altogether... the last proper transverse 4wd car was the Evo. The latest Focus RS was good but not great, this, with a good whack of more (real) power, could be something..
To right have an Evo 5rs also. Favourite car in my stable
