Lease companies typically get a vehicle for 40% less than retail as they buy in bulk. So they can offer what seems silly lease deals. In fairness most manufacturers don't like selling to lease or rental companies . Private sale is were the margins are.

Looks like the bonnet and bootlid came of a scrapped donor. On looks alone, I'd have the simple - if not quite pretty - Fiat 124 over this any day.

Depreciation is only a meaningless number. I buy a car to enjoy or for a specific purpose. How many cars can you buy without them depreciation? I don’t trade cars in as dealers rob you blind plus you get a better deal on a straight deal.

If I like my old car I keep it and add it to the collection or sell it privately.

If you want an investment buy a Picasso!

I bought a new 2019 Reg Abarth 124 auto and love it. Retail about £35k straight deal £26k, I’m more than happy.

Not everyone has room or wants to hold onto there last car ,point people are making on depreciation is Mazda is equally as fun without blowing the amount you don't mind ,everyone's choice but thanks to first owners they are now looking like better value .

When I got mine in May 2018 they were doing some crazy lease deals. Unfortunately as I was quite a late mover the deals were only on the autos (which had an RRP of ~£32k!). I paid £2k down and £200 a month for 24 months.

Wish i had the manual but the auto is ok (once sport mode is pressed). The car is great fun and the exhaust sound will certainly wake up your neighbours at 6am! Steering is nice and heavy and suspension is about right. In the time that I've owned it I've only a seen a couple of others on the road.

Pretty cheap to insure and service and I'm averaging about 31mpg.

I wish I'd got in at £150p/m (and I actually like autoboxes)!!!

Really like this - way better looking than its sister Mazda

I’ve been following these for a while (standard 124) as I actually think they look pretty good (not a fan of the latest MX5); I attempted to persuade the OH at the start of the year but she wanted a new Jimny (which she loves) so the 124 will have to wait until prices come down and we can justify it as a second car.

I take it these are fairly reliable, given they are essentially Mazda (apart from the engine)?

Happy owner here.

I paid a fair bit under 20 for mine, felt great value compared to my last few cars.

And I've found myself taking this one out for a drive just for fun.

Lightweight, RWD, LSD, Bilstein suspension, brembo brakes.

I've not had fun on wet roads since my AE86 from 25 years ago.

Bringing it back from the garage I got 48mpg.

First time in silver without the red bits - VERY nice too a tasteful improvement.

The red bits didn't grow on me so changed them for black, easy to do.

I'd recommend one.

I've got a 2017 manual, silver with the red and black bits. I got an OK lease deal — £244pm but for 15K miles pa, which is turning out to be a misjudgement since I split my mileage across this and a Volvo 850 estate.

The long nose combines with sharp steering, RWD and LSD to make it feel incredibly nimble. It's probably at its best on tight narrow B roads as the engine gets a bit wheezy and the sound track gets a lot less operatic at high revs. At slower speeds, it's a riot.

Best of all is the roof. With the flick of a handle, you can throw it behind you in a second, so no journey is too short to not put the roof down and if — like this summer — the rain is always beckoning, you just pull it up at the next traffic light.

Coming into it from a Golf R, it's in another league enjoyment-wise, even though it's slower. I'll be keeping an eye on prices as the lease ends as its going to be a wrench to see it go.

Oh, and the strangest thing is the amount of attention it gets from people who have no idea what it is. So, I'm guessing this is a genuine reaction to the styling, which feels fabulously proportioned — miles better than the stumpy and awkward MX5 with an elegance that really belongs on six-figure sports cars

My partner has one - red with the matt black bonnet. It gets a lot of positive attention from all walks of lfe, and quite a lot of "What's that then?".

I have to say, they are a hoot to drive. It's easy to forget the momentum you have to deal with driving a modern car that is 1,700kg; there's not much you can drive today where you flick the steering and it just goes. The ride quality is excellent and it's just a brilliant B road tool. You feel part of the machine and it is a great example of not needing to go fast to have fun.

As people have said, you could get them dirt cheap. We got a 0% interest finance deal... can't remember the monthlies but it's not much at all. Getting over 40mpg is a doddle too.

Given I drive a Lamborghini, I wince at how loud the Abarth can be starting it up early in the morning! It is fun burbling around town but its certainly not a nice sounding engine. However, it has bags of character in all departments so it's difficult not to love it.

For the money, you get bags of equipment, a great drive, cheap running costs and the go faster bits for an exotic feel.... hard to beat.
