Hi all
Had my eye off the market for a while but seems I've missed the up! GTi been taken off sale ? Or atleast I can't see it on Volkswagen website and I've missed it.
Can't find any articles about it either
Anyone know what's going on please ? Temporary position due to under supply maybe ?
Quite fancy a little 5 door one.

Discontinued in the UK since April.

Shame, I have a couple of mates that have them and they're cracking little cars. Drive like a road going Go Kart, wheel at each corner, low weight etc, proper back to basics, fun car. I'd love one in the future, I suspect with the very short run they'll hold their value well.

They seem to get very good reviews so why not have a gti badge on it.

I thought it was a cheap marketing stunt, which seems to be the case if they've pulled the plug already.

Everyone who's driven one seems to love them, fun hatch, useable everyday, seems the perfect car for the badge tbh.

Is it WLTP-related? Presume it’ll be back shortly, if so. If not, surely one of the most short-lived models ever. Buy now to ensure future classic fortunes. hehe

Word on another forum is that the whole Up!/Mii/Citigo range is being pulled soon, apart from electric versions, and will not be replaced as there isn't enough profit building small ICE cars.

I was told in may that they wouldn't be accepting new factory orders for the citigo due to a switch to electric.

Nope, that all happened last year. My mate ordered his in March, told it'd arrive in around 6-8 weeks, it arrived 9 MONTHS later, just in time for xmas because of all the emissions issues.

It’s not just the GTI, all Ups with TSI engines have been discontinued. There’s been no official reason from VW, but the Up is an old car now and the replacement is rumoured to be on the ID electric platform. Either way, if you want a GTI, there is still dealer stock available. I love mine, it’s a really fun little car.

Shame as I saw a 19 plate one on Friday and thought it looked the business

Really? Well that's quite a limited run - the new Lupo GTI style cult classic then!

Yes, apparently it is. Lots of engines have disappeared with WLTP.

It was the first car to be tested under WLTP, so I’m not sure that has contributed to it being taken off sale.

Isn't it to do with new fleet emissions rules? Lots of small engines will disappear as they wont be sustainable under new regs.

Didn't realise they weren't making them anymore - my Mum's just bought one brand new, well I suppose it's been sat around for a month or so having read this, and it's a hoot.

Yep - I was sorely tempted to buy one based on what I'd read.

Probably the nearest thing to a Mk1 Golf GTI in weight/power/handling currently available. Sounds great fun and much less licence-threatening than faster, higher powered stuff.
