The up! GTI will be back and available to order in the UK in January, with some small revisions.

So far 2 people saying it's coming back, really, really hoping it's true. Did a bit of googling and can't find anything to confirm as yet so hoping we've got some insider knowledge

I hope it comes back. I drove a 1.0 TSI 90 version which drove very well. Sure it wouldn't win drag races but it was very, very good around town and twisty A & B roads. It was what most cars aren't these days, fun!

Other half now has an Up! Beats, unfortunately only the n/a 3 pot with 60bhp. It's still a bit of fun around town but the engines are worlds apart in driveability.

I decided to contact my local VW dealership and ask... No response.
Tried another at other end of the country, asked the question and they replied telling me about some amazing deals on the outgoing golf, totally ignoring my actual query.

So far VW dealers seem less useful that the jeep dealership... Which is hard cos they were not good

Simply put, the dealers won’t know. Best people to contact are Volkswagen UK Customer Services.

It is coming back though. The only revisions are safety related, Lane Assist and curtain airbags are now standard, although they’ve removed the city braking option.

I really hope this is true. Was really annoyed I missed the boat the first time round, fingers crossed.

Discontinued in the UK since April.

Shame, I have a couple of mates that have them and they're cracking little cars. Drive like a road going Go Kart, wheel at each corner, low weight etc, proper back to basics, fun car. I'd love one in the future, I suspect with the very short run they'll hold their value well.

With all due respect have any of your mates ever driven a go kart?

Apart from a Reliant's which cars dont have a wheel at each corner?

Put a VW badge on a turd and it would still sell like hot cakes.

No joy from VW customer services, infact they also seem to just want to sell me a golf

"Thank you for your correspondence regarding the Golf GTI.

I am delighted to hear of your interest. The Golf GTI is a fabulous choice, we love to hear your feedback. Regarding the Mark 8, we currently do not have any information on the trims that will be available in the UK market. We are very excited for the revival of such an iconic vehicle in the Volkswagen range. You can sign up your details to our Keep Me Informed page on the website where you will be updated as soon as the Brand releases any further details. This can be accessed on the following link:"

My email had the title up! GTi in 2020 and made it clear I was asking about the up.

Hopefully it comes back and I can buy one, though it might have to spend some time explaining that I really don't want a golf lol

I hope it comes back. I'm just catching up on Grand Tour having taken out a free sub of Amazon Prime and watched the review on Saturday of the Up GTI by James May. Basically he said it was half the price of the Mk7 Golf GTI but twice the fun... I can believe it. Most of my favourite cars owned were small, light and short of BHP.

If they dont bring it back it will acquire cult status and get ridiculously expensive like the Lupo GTI.

Okay, so VW customer services first response was poor, but when I replied pointing out that I was asking about the up not the golf, they responded in less than 30 mins and the news is good.

THEY HAVE CONFIRMED ITS BACK IN Q1 2020 !!!!

I've been added to the waiting list, not surprised that there is a waiting list. Just on this thread alone seems many of us were gutted to miss it first time.

I'll be going for a white or grey 5dr with the Pano roof

"Thank you for your response. I appreciate it.

I do apologise for the confusion. The Up GTI has been confirmed by the Brand to be available in the first quarter of 2020. Due to the high demand customers have for the Up GTI we do have a listing available on our end. If you provide me with your postcode and best daytime contact number I am more than happy to get you on the list where we will keep you updated closer to the date.

I hope this information proves useful and I am very sorry once again for the confusion.

Thank you for contacting Volkswagen UK."

I think you're probably on a mailing list rather than a waiting list. Good to hear it's coming back though.

Yeah, it's a list to get a call from the local dealer as soon as they hear anything. I assume it's a "hot sales lead" list
Tbf I ain't missing out this time, if they call I'll order there and then over the phone

I'm sure your local dealer would take a deposit off you for one.

In theory you'd then be a the front of the queue.

You might have to bypass the sales people as they may say they can't take a deposit on something they can't order at the moment.

If that happens ask to have a chat with the sales manager.

So I’ve done a “live chat” with Volkswagen Customer Services.

They started off by trying to sign me up to the generic bs email list for when the new models are released, but then I asked about leaving a deposit (not that type) and they called my nearest Main Dealer to see if that’s possible. The advisor didn’t shriek at the idea so hopefully possible. Main dealer is calling me later on today.

Let’s see if they do.
