Agreed.

However there is another side to that coin.

I can't believe I just spent time watching that, but I did. So many idiots in awful looking cars. However the section around the 15 min mark with the police... I did chuckle.

It's just all so fking tragic. I got served a 'moving car show' video of that Adam chap's recently on YT, and it was one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen.

Imagine spending tens of thousands of pounds on buying and modifying a car, just to go and thrash it off a roundabout past a group of pubescent kids. Who does that? Who are these people?

I cringed so hard that I had to turn the video off.
Yep, me too. I used to subscribe to his channel when he did interesting videos of cars meets, walking round the cars and highlighting some of the more interesting ones. However, I think he realised the clickbait potential of showing the chav muppets leaving the shows and some of the more unofficial Sainsbury’s car park meets.
A real pity because most of his vids appear to have degenerated into a formulaic pattern.
Featuring burn outs/drifts, bouncing off the rev limiter/exhaust noise/flames and general exit fcensoredwittery.
The clickbait titles are clearly designed to lure in more subscribers.
Thereby providing increased merchandising opportunities (T-shirts) and product promotion (watches).
It's the symbiotic point I was alluding to earlier.

I unsubscribed at that point. At some point soon some moron is going to lose control of a suped-up ricer and plow into a family.
When you say family, I presume you mean parents with young children.
What kind of parent takes their offspring to hang around at the exit of a meet to watch drivers with one brain cell between them giving it large?

Maybe the family in their car on the way out/home on the roads that these bellends have decided to use as a track, or the family out for a walk and need to make thir way through the bellends clogging the footpaths etc?

Am with you, the trouble is many of these people have no brains and i am talking about the kids yet to shave standing a few feet from the cars as well as the drivers themselves;
The Reading video is actually reassuring as to how many young spectators do have the brains to stand back or competent parents who instilled common sense. You can’t stop the idiots or victims of useless parents from doing the blatantly stupid but at least you can see that they are not legion at that event.

I have full sympathy for anyone injured, but really couldn’t give a damn about those responsible.

I think its fair. Yes they made a mistake while doing something stupid, but the people lining the street must have known there was an element of danger in standing there. 2 and a half years inside is a long time, it seems like a small number but it will feel like half a lifetime

The whole thing is just so painfully stupid. Those two lads have totally f@cked themselves for life, for the sake of showing off. The idiots jeering them on / naive bystanders have got themselves some horrible memories and nasty injuries. Just such a waste. And yet this goes on every weekend.

Not sure I have any answers. Just wish the showoff dheads and gawking nitwits would find an interest other than cars and leave them for the rest of us.

That said, thank god there wasn’t a YouTube/Instagram when I was 17.

Wanton and furious, still current? More or less serious than DD?

Different. But appropriate and available in the view of those charging them. Nothing I have seen calls that into question and the disposal seems reasonable.

Yes.

Same maximum penalty 2yrs/unlimited fine (if DD is dealt with on indictment).
Usually used where DD might not be able to be used (ie is applicable where injury caused but not on road or public place).

The Borough Council also got an injunction against any car meets, sign on every road when you cross the Borough boundary informing you car meets are illegal

Yes. Indictable only offence. 2 years max.

Dangerous driving is an ‘either way’ offence. 2 years max on indictment. 6 months max otherwise. Min 1 year ban in either case.

The defendants weren’t charged with dangerous driving, of course. They were charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving. 5 years max. Min 2 year ban.

I wonder if we might see more of this? I understand there was a fatality and a life changing head injury at a car meet on the south coast recently? A short video popped up on my feed where an officer was talking about how they would be policing such events more keenly as a (perfectly reasonable in my book) response.

If you watch any of these videos there is a lot of money there. Beat up Civics with fart can exhausts are a ver small minority.
OK some have indulgent parents no doubt and some funded by dubious means, but the majority must be self funded by people with good ( and therefore generally responsible ), jobs.
That’s the scariest part.

The Reading meet used to be really good , lots of like minded car enthusiasts chatting quite a few of them PH’ers but it’s become been taken over by idiots showing off , I think all the regulars have moved on to pub meets and coffee shops now .

I guess there have always been people of this mindset but I’m not sure that Youtubers have helped it.

Bit of a shame but everything is cyclical it was this bad and worse in the 80’s ie the Heston services meets but had turned pretty sensible by the 00’s

Thanks, that makes it clear. Also vonhosen for similar clarity.
