they do however, at most of these idiotic meets anyone would be lying if they said cars are politely doing 40 or under ffs - they are ragged to f**k in built up areas so its hardly surprising there are deaths. You can see why there was the thread about clamping down on inurance for 'at risk' drivers recently.

Loads of videos on Facebook , still no official numbers on deaths if any (hopefully it’s none)

That's terrible news for all those injured & the wider impact it will have.

As with all things in life it's a few that spoil it for the many. It's a whole lot worse now that there are successful YouTube channels where people spend more time stood at the exit than at the meet/show. Their very presence makes for a whole circus causing some people to get carried away for their 5seconds of fame.

I was at Castle Combe at the weekend for the German car day and was happy to see the security had parked up right by the exits and were moving people trying film along to try to put a stop to all the reckless behaviour that has been getting worse at recent events like Spring Action an Japshow.

What a brilliant world. Massive accident, people injured and strewn in all directions, everyone keeps on filming.

As distasteful as it is, maybe it's not a bad thing since then there is a record of what actually happened. Rather like dashcam footage in a way.

Agreed and folk on here are baying to see it because what they have seen so far doesn’t actually show people being hit.

They don’t race as such , it’s more of a hill climb I guess , go as fast up the hill as they can , but the junction is tricky and you can’t see cars pulling out due to crowd . I would say the Nisan driver is going down for this if someone dies
Of course they were racing and you're naive if you think otherwise.

I think that is an unfair assumption, to be honest. No-one is looking to sate any bloodlust from what I have read, so I'm not sure what made you think that. Most of us on here are car-fanatics/petrolheads, and I think it would be fair to say quite a few (myself included) have had a spirited drive now and then - I think in this case there is a simple desire to properly understand what actually happened truthfully, without making rash decisions and apportioning unwarranted blame.

To pick up on emicen's point, I wonder what negative effect the whole social media circus has to play in situations like this - there appears to be lots of inappropriate driving on narrow roads rammed with close-standing bystanders - most with their phones out filming. The problem seems to be (as on many other occasions, like the drivers that ploughed their Lamborghini and Camaro into garden walls recently) where an accident occurs, and the first thing the person filming does is... carry on filming. Perhaps from a police perspective there could be value in seeing the aftermath, but it just seems incredibly distasteful and detached from the real world.

Having said that, these cruise meetings look utterly cringeworthy - I personally couldn't imagine attending one.

Can’t really call these cruises in the traditional sense they are more like illegal street races.

Two dead apparently. There’s a lot of chatter about it on the Reading Jap Meet group as the same problem with crowds on the exit happens. They group right on the exits and anyone leaving can’t see to their right for traffic approaching.

It a terrible thing to happen but really people should know better than to stand 2 feet from a road with people doing 70mph+.
You don't do 70mph on a road lined with pedestrians ffs
Or round there. Of all the places in Stevenage, that's got to be the most stupid place to be driving 70mph.

There are a number of places where I've questioned the logic of a blanket 40mph limit as MK isn't too dissimilar but is NSL virtually everywhere. However, by the Range 40mph is entirely appropriate.

The guy along with anyone else involved need locking up. Muppets.

It was bound to happen, I’ve been to a few of these types of meets and it’s always a few people who ruin it for the rest.

Now there’s been deaths I guess the police will have to do something about these gatherings.

I’m not naive at all, but maybe readings not your strong point. What I wrote is entirely accurate .

The only mystery here is why the police haven't done something about them before. Hundreds of people standing by the side of public roads while a bunch of boy racers drive their cars way too fast as they show off for the crowds, and that's before the unsuspecting non-participants who just happen to be driving on the roads at the same time are also unwittingly added to the mix.

Is there a full video out there? The one I've seen cuts out just before the cars collide.

The Nissan speeding way over the limit, the BMW trying to spin his wheels and trying to get a bit "sideways" coming out of the junction, people standing in harms way in the middle of a road, a recipe for disaster.

I've always found the idea of these car meets a bit cringey, but these guys don't do themselves any favours.
Looks like a BMW but was actually a Toyota

Have you actually seen the clip? One car pulls out of a side road into the path of another which is going far too fast to do anything about it. They weren’t racing each other.

There's always a few idiots who ruin it and now they've done it big time.

Here comes the big crackdown on all speed, modified cars and car meets.

You won't have seen any of the video then? The BMW comes out of a left hand side road about 1sec before impact. That's the cause, excessive speed from the 350 and a car pulling out in front of him. Not "racing" per se.

It's been said that the BMW couldn't see the approaching 350 due to the crowds, not that that exonerates either of them.
