Seemed quite balanced at the end admitting their mistakes over where to stand, looks like they've learned an important lesson.

Don't want to be a dick but "learn to walk again" is a little bit dramatic, no? He's not got brain or spinal damage, his legs are badly broken.

There's also a gofundme running for one of the injured girls as she is apparently unable to use her 10th floor flat and wants the money to relocate to a ground floor flat. She also can't now drive (presumably temporarily although it didn't mention whether injuries were permanent or not) so also cannot work.

I had knee surgery and woke up to be told I could only toe touch on the operated leg (this was not the plan beforehand!!) for 6 weeks. So crawling around on the floor for stairs and showers etc. It was hard to walk properly once I was allowed to start again, so it might be melodramatic slightly and not perhaps strictly learning but it is hard as you just take it for granted for as long as you can remember and you can't really describe how you walk you just sort of always have!?

It took me a few years to learn to walk properly after a particularly nasty break, it all depends on the severity of the injury.

And I would guess a reasonable amount of muscle wastage that would need to be built back up again.

This sort of stuff is pretty common in more rural areas too.

It’s amazing what your brain forgets. I broke my leg in 3 places, plus ACL and was banned from bearing any weight for 4 months. Despite doing daily physio to minimise muscle wastage it still took months of rehab to walk reasonably and probably another 6 months after that to eradicate the limp.

That said I hold myself 100% responsible for my injury, as I would if I’d decided to stand 3 foot away from watching an amateur trying to max their car on an urban clearway ;-)

ETA - re-read the BBC article and it seems the chap is the first to admit his judgement re getting close to idiot drivers. Fair play, given that many seem to be blaming the police, council etc

kids today?
i grew up in a time with no internet.
road cars that normal people could own had no power no grip and no brakes.
we had fun.
group B was the dream we had.
however because we knew the real world (knives cut, guns shoot, dogs bite, falling from height hurts, and cars dont really slow down as they crash into people)we learned to make sure you had something like a big tree between you and a car getting it wrong.
this just looks like kids lining up to be killed by traffic
people will always do stupid, and it is entertaining to see people taking risks.
if you are there to spectate keep yourself safe,
and i hate the begging online because "i need money to help me be stupid"
world gone mad!

^ Group B eh?

Cos no spectators were hit by those guys while standing IN the road as the cars came towards them, or stood on the outside of corners waiting to be steam-rollered.

It wasn't all sunshine, roses and IQ's of 190 in your day.

Did you also grow up in a time before they'd invented the capital letter?

I did think that myself - I was told I'd have to "learn to walk again" after breaking my leg in 5 or 6 places and spending 7 months in plaster.

Came out of it with my upper leg looking more like my bicep, but can't say I had to "learn" anything with regards walking.

Was racing my bike at Cadwell 2 weeks later - the only thing I had to learn was how to hide my poor gait from the scrutineers! biggrin

Have we had any charges yet?

Last I heard was that one driver had been interviewed at home and the other needed ”time with family” or some such bks.

I said this around decade ago...

"Watch this" tw@ts in front of video camera tw@ts = recipe for success.

Lessons learned? None. Repeat on loop, in ever higher resolution...

IMHO, Everyone is to blame:

Chavs who drive like morons with zero skill or anticipation.

Those who encourage this behaviour by filming the antics and profiting via YouTube.

Those who attend such gatherings and encourage the above via yelling, or standing in Darwin Award locations.

The Police who have the man power to hide in bushes in the middle of nowhere, yet fail to Police regular hot spots. Let alone as metioned, fail to investigate the really horrific crimes in the UK now. Or sit around online looking for those who insist on using their freedom of speech. Yet magically the police appear en masse after an accident. Yes there is a reason the public don't respect you any more. You are not working for the people. I suggest resigning if you don't like that harsh reality.

Anyway, that's my 2p. I am sure the arguing will go on forever. That's all I have to say on the matter. I don't want to be dragged into the black hole of despair over the state of the UK. Just to say, this will contuniue to occur. Predictable as the sun setting.

Right...

Back to happier threads. Enjoy biggrin
