How much Council Tax was converted into hot air for that article?

Seems like a sensible decision considering the outcome of the last meet.

How will they prevent people doing informal meetups via social media?

Illegal event no longer allowed. That'll solve it.

People always have and always will show off in cars. People always have and always will stood around to watch.

They can't. Just look at all the Informal Facebook remainer meet ups around Westminster at the moment over Brexit! whistle

Were all those people stood around waiting for the number 94 bus?

Sheesh, there's some nutty thinking around these parts sometimes.

The nutters who caused the accident are the ones responsible for restricting the ones who behave themselves. Blame them rather than the local authorities, who are duty bound to act in the public interest (including protecting you from nutters at car meets around public spaces).

Well it certainly was not a completely unconnected event. Like many things, a minority can ruin it for the majority BUT when people behave in such a way as to endanger life you have to take action.

Act like knobs, get treated like knobs.

Why would that matter?

Do you think people would be driving like aholes there if the meet didn't take place? Do you think the crowd would be there filming or cheering if it didn't take place?

The same as the other 'car cruising' injunctions: nobody needs to prevent it as such - after the injunction anybody taking part in a meet will be in contempt of court. In the other cases, the police widely publicised the bans and warned that anybody breaching it would be arrested and brought before the court.

Isn't the thing to do to allow the meetup but have police close by to deter the numpties?
Or even make the event organisers responsible for policing.

Has anyone ever been prosecuted in relation to this type of injunction for car meets though? Be interested to know.

Yes. As I posted earlier in the thread:
https://www.expressandstar.com/news/2019/02/22/bla...

Forty-seven respondents have been subject to committal proceedings for breaching the injunction since 2015, including 32 within the last 12 months. One defendant received an immediate custodial sentence of three months, 14 were given suspended sentences of up to six months while others received fines of up to £2,000 and were ordered to pay costs. A further 12 respondents have given undertakings to the court.

I said this around decade ago...

"Watch this" tw@ts in front of video camera tw@ts = recipe for success.

Lessons learned? None. Repeat on loop, in ever higher resolution...

IMHO, Everyone is to blame:

Chavs who drive like morons with zero skill or anticipation.

Those who encourage this behaviour by filming the antics and profiting via YouTube.

Those who attend such gatherings and encourage the above via yelling, or standing in Darwin Award locations.

The Police who have the man power to hide in bushes in the middle of nowhere, yet fail to Police regular hot spots. Let alone as metioned, fail to investigate the really horrific crimes in the UK now. Or sit around online looking for those who insist on using their freedom of speech. Yet magically the police appear en masse after an accident. Yes there is a reason the public don't respect you any more. You are not working for the people. I suggest resigning if you don't like that harsh reality.

Anyway, that's my 2p. I am sure the arguing will go on forever. That's all I have to say on the matter. I don't want to be dragged into the black hole of despair over the state of the UK. Just to say, this will contuniue to occur. Predictable as the sun setting.

Right...

Back to happier threads. Enjoy biggrin
Whilst I agree with the sentiment that people only play up / drive like a cock when they have an audience and to get more facebook/youtube views etc I dont think the comments over plod are fair.

Plod cant anticipate how these meets will go, many hundreds of them go without this type of serious incident. Those that they do 'supervise', they can only release one or two officers and they cant cover a large retail park or other meet area.

Also, if they did turn up, all the yoofs would do is move on and moan all day about what a waste of police resources it is.

The police are dammed if they do and dammed if they dont.
