I used to be a member of a UK site for Seat Cupra cars, this was back in the day when the current generation was the Cupra R 225, which I owned at the time. Lots of photo guides on how to do jobs, good technical knowledge and helpful members for fault diagnosis and fixes, some good modification and tuning info.

It was otherwise dull though. Back then there were only a handful of Cupra cars so there wasn't much to talk about. I only used it for the technical stuff and never visited it again after I sold the Cupra R to buy a Civic Type R.
SCN is still going but has become a bit of a chav central these days now.

UK based FIAT forum is very good, some good knowledge for tech problems.
A separate room for every sub model and seems friendly.
I think they like my car but my threads get thousands of views but few comments.
They have a like button too.....thumbup

Some of the UK forums are a bit poncey, some are OK. But the US forums are very well informed and frequented.

I think it's a combination of bigger population, more Mercs sold, and enthusiastic self reliant owners. They have big well equipped garages, love doing manly stuff with tools and cars, filming and uploading it.

A cultural thing.
Same here.

To be fair the MBClub UK forum has a lot of knowledgeable posters who provide a lot of technical stuff. Like all forums it does have it's moments but generally it is a good place to post and learn.

+1

Overall a great forum with lots of friendly people and a very good DIY section. I think brand and model specific forums are best when they originate from the principal market the car was sold in - German Audi A2 forum for example is one of the best ones I am a member with, same as the German SLK forum.

I find that the number of forum members is inversely proportional to the usefulness of the forum. Small groups of enthusiasts tend to be helpful, friendly and knowledgeable - or at least polite. As soon as the net widens, simply statistically you will attract more morons and it only takes a very small number of trolls to ruin a perfectly civil forum.

A UK MG forum I belonged to was fantastic. I see a couple of people from there on here. Lots of technical advice, how-to guides etc. and people shared useful information on where they stuffed up on particular jobs, group buys etc.

Then I bought a Vauxhall Vectra Mk C... I joined the forum. Everything is about how to strap a tuning box onto the 1.9 diesel, or how to replace all the lights with blue LEDs, or fitting wind deflectors to compliment the "Wayne + Shaz" sunstrip. There were a few knowledgeable people but in the end I stopped using it as I felt I had nothing to offer that they would be interested in and the converse was also true.

Mx5 nutz forum was brilliant huge market place where you find all sorts of rare and unique parts alongside usual coilovers brakes engines parts etc. A big social scene in every area I organised for 2 years weekend runs few times a year up into mid wales with people coming from as far as London to join in the same group there was also regular midnight run which were fun. Twice I joined with them for jap fest and jap fest 2 with convoys and on both occasions were the biggest stands on show with 142 cars at Donnington.
Forum was helpful with loads of experience posters and newbies joining. Then in late 2016 the sales section was separated from the forum to a stand alone part which killed that side then the forum was sold to a candian company which had history of buying forums and promptly destroying them. The forum went down hill soon after and haven't looked in there since.
From what I've heard its limping along but pretty much died.

One thing I did notice the prolific posters or the ones that caused the most arguments never atteneded any of the social gatherings.

However, in all of this, there are always some gems. Be it excellently improved cars, useful technical details, and posters who really know their stuff. Shame people don't use the search function and just post mindless rubbish.

I've been using Z4forum for 5 years now and have found it really helpful, with plenty of advice/tips/guides and some good banter!

Plus there are local, regional and national meets that are always a good day out.

Most people are UK based, but there are some US, mainland Europe and even Antipodean members.

I just wish I had joined before I got one!

I find bmw5.co.uk to be very good, particularly in the E34/39 subforums. Very friendly and knowledgeable. There was one annoying bloke from Russia who kept asking about any little thing and not taking listening to any advice, but apart from him it is very good.

What's the best forum(s) for MX5s now? Definitely echo OPs comments about the MX5OC.
