Yes I love cars to the point of obsession and yes I’d like to think I have petrol coursing through my veins, and while I adore 911s, old Ferraris, 1960s Lamborghinis and GT40s, I simply have no interest in hypercars. Veyron and Chiron? No thanks. Ugly, pointless and boring. Whereas, slow cars can be interesting to the point that I’m ALWAYS interested in whatever and was fascinated when pouring over choices for my 17 year old daughter and amazed what you can get for £600.

For the record I drive a M2 Comp (manual) and have had (almost) every generation of M3 inc E30, various old Alpinas, 911s, Lotuses, Caterhams, Lancias, etc etc. So, while I’m obsessed by cars and this includes many new ‘fast’ cars, I’m really not interested in many supercars or hypercars, and yes, I’d have a Singer 911 over a Veyron (although a McLaren F1 is a thing of wonder). Anyone else?

I don't have a great deal of interest in driving them and certainly have no desire to own one but I find them interesting from an engineering perspective.

Agreed. Completely and utterly irrelevant to 99.9999% of people. Just marketing exercises for the manufacturers and only ever bought to be sat in a collection somewhere never to see the light of day.

I actually have zero interest in any exotica really but that is more of a minority opinion around here. Even given an unlimited car buying budget I don't think there would be a single Ferrari/Lambo/Mclaren or whatever in my fleet.

They are beautiful & as kambites said from an engineering view interesting. However I have no real interest in them as they are not achievable for almost everyone. Even if I won the lottery I wouldn’t want one.

We just got amazon prime & ive watched the first series of the grand tour where a veyron & a 918 got mullered by a highly modified Nissan patrol. I found the Nissan far more interesting.

I’d imagine that if you had the money to buy one then you’d find them more interesting.

Saying that, 2manycars on here recently bought a Senna, says it’s completely pointless and is going to sell it as other cars just do it better (I’m paraphrasing but that’s the gist of it)

I agree they are getting to the point of unusable on the road but things like pagani and koenigsegg are stunning works of art with some of the details and finishes.

Fully agreed!

It is also the engineering perspective that fascinates me endlessly, but it’s racecars that satisfy this need (for me). Not hypercars.

I think I made that observation a year or 2 back - euromillions triple rollover and it's very likely that there'd not be a single supercar in my garage (quite possibly/probably not even a supercar). I'd be visiting places like Kindig It Designs

Ish. I like to see genuine advances in technology and I do see these kind of cars week in week out so it’s not like they exist only in magazines.

However I’m never likely to be able to afford one and so I’d be way more interested in the same kind of approach to a 50k sports car. Not fussed about headline power, Kers or hybrid. A revvy in-line 4/6 would do me but with a high tech chassis and low weight. Elise mk4 if you will.

Chevrolet just demonstrated what is possible at $60k base. Granted they have huge economies of scale but so do loads of other manufacturers. I wish the big companies would focus more in this segment rather than the help product. Renault have stepped in with the alpine but they have form. I wonder what the likes of ford, Honda, Audi etc would come up with if they decided to build an enthusiast product rather than one for the uber rich

As a lazy YouTube watcher my impression of Hypercars is they're bought by idiots who can't drive, but that may be a slightly skewed viewpoint. 😉

As a reasonably successful (now retired) IT director I'm more confused about how so many people can be so rich

It's amazing the number of posters who can cope with the complexity of Italian spelling but struggle with a British name! mad

I don’t have any interest in any hypercars from the last 10 years or so. They just don’t really interest me. Probably the most modern ones that I like are something like an LFA or Carrera GT.

As my mate once said to me “if you won the lottery, you wouldn’t buy a Ferrari, you’d buy a scrap yard full of cars for the same money.” I couldn’t disagree.

Honestly I have no real interest in them as realistically I would never be able to afford one.

Even if I did get a freak lottery win I dont think I get one still. Even as a millionaire it would make grimace the running costs of them.

I've always thought if I ever won lots of money I'd probably end up with an old F3 car as I'd probably go round a track quicker in one of those than any hyperxar.

It’s more do do with typing on an iPhone without glasses. I know how to spell McLaren, thanks, am I’m not struggling. Curious that you’re so offended that it’s ‘British’. Not quite sure what that has to do with it, but I can guess.

I'll admit I had to google it so I got the correct Mac/Mclaren for the context. Thus demonstrating the complete lack of interest in said cars as evidenced by this thread.

Yep, me too. It’s not the lack of affordability I don’t think, as that’s true of a 250 California, Miura or DB4 Superleggera too, and I love them.

What bothers me is that the practicality and volumes of these HyperCars are so low they really aren’t production cars. I’ve never been that interested in Motor Show concept cars either for the same reason. Seems to me that for all the styling and engineering prowess that goes into them, they are largely sculptures, produced in low volumes and destined for display. So there’s no interesting interaction between owners, cars and real world going on.

Or put another way... the fact that the Shah of Iran used to drive a Miura in snow to a Swiss ski resort is just a lot more interesting to me than that an unknown collector bought a car I’ll never see and put it in storage.

Same feeling as most other posters here: I think my interest in mega/hyper cars peaked with the Carrera gt generation. Reading this weeks Autocar, I was far more interested in the 968 buying guide than the article on the new Lotus, maybe it’s an age thing.

I personally find the Veyron pretty vulgar and I don't even like the way it looks. The noise it makes gets criticised too...so I'm not sure what the real point of it is(apart from it being the ultimate willy waver).

If I had the money to buy a Veyron I wouldn't buy one, and I'd buy a string of other cars instead up to its value.

Back when there was basically Ferrari and Lamborghini making supercars they’d probably release a new top of the range once in a decade. It was a big deal when a new one came out.

Now there seems to be more brands of supercar than there are of hatchbacks.

The only thing that’s got my attention lately is the Valkyrie.
