Genuine question - I live in Rugby, only about 1/2 a mile down the road from the Judd factory. Was Hart based here too, or were you thinking of Judd?
T'was a long time ago! I think you're correct. Judd.
Thanks ☺

As clear as day I remember a fine warm summers evening in the Peak district a white Turbo 2 on full chat with a bad ass helping off opposite lock dancing through the corners on the now infamous Cat n Fiddle road. Just shortly after summiting the high point in my own car there it was as we passed each other going opposite directions. He was giving it the beans but man and machine looked truly connected and the Turbo 2, what a sight. Indelibly etched in my mind that fine day as I continued down the road in my Integrale, two rally pedigree cars of different eras being enjoyed as they should be.
Why not own both. I did ...smile

They weren’t that expensive when I bought them. I think £5800 each (R5T2 in 1994 and Integrale 16v in 2007). I sold the Integrale for £7000 and the R5T2 for about £12000 in 2008. I kept all the maintenance receipts for both cars and the above sale prices pretty much exactly matched what they had each cost me to own, so they were effectively free motoring.

Of course if I’d kept them longer, then I would have made a small fortune, but in the meantime I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to own a Subaru Impreza 22B, or a Lotus Carlton, etc because their prices have also since skyrocketed (again after I sold mine...).

I took this picture in the days when I possibly may have been able to afford one, unfortunately no more.

I adore these and want one. Obviously the 1 is more desirable and there have been plenty turbo 2 at the classic auctions in the last 12 months.

There was a time that I would have lusted over an R5 with the Maxi body kit but now maybe an original Turbo 1 is my preference.

As an aside there's a smorgasbord of great cars in that pic - Chevette HSR, Sunbeam Lotus, yellow 911 on the trailer, Alpine A310, mk2 Escort, 900 Turbo, TR7 rally car, E34 Sport 5er....

Looks like a 1990s Castle Combe Rally Car day. We used to double it up as the Group B Car Club National Day. I remember driving in my R5T2 back to central London along the A4 after one such event at ridiculous speeds...

Even the great Jean Ragnotti himself was Guest of Honour there in 1999 and took some owners out in their cars for a good “Ragging”.

I've nicked that pic and posted in the "period classic pictures" thread (with credit to you). Hope you don't mind but we cream ourselves over stuff like this over there!

Was the Maxi ever available as a road car or are they Turbo 2's with a bodykit?
