From the pics it looks like new - it is certainly desirable.

LHD? wouldn't be a factor as this can be 'learned' over time - Aircon is a big bonus if the car is to be actually used... given the choice of a RHD car without Aircon and a LHD drive one with Aircon, the LHD would always win it for me.

Fond memories of Peugeot in its heyday in the 1990s - my 205 GTI 1.9 was such fun ... a lot of its DNA in this car. Drove a 309 XS back then a few times and even that was a great car back in the day...

I do think the price is OTT, but probably said that 2 years ago when the other car in the article was referenced... (and 2 years before that! )... I am sure it will sell if the pictures reflect it's actual condition and the drives as well as it looks...

And big wooden steering wheel that looks like something Jack Sparrow should be hanging off. I've always wondered what all the fuss is with a Goodwood, it looks terrible imho.

A 16 valver in Blu however... cloud9

Thank god it’s not just me. Always hated the look of the Goodwood, even when they were new.

Yes I didn't like the look of the Goodwood as much as 309 1.9 Gti..
Nice that blue 309 Gti...I don't know about you guys but I always thought the 205 Gti steering wheel looked a bit too big for the car size..
Maybe it's me..

Never had a GTi but I had a 309 SRi that was broken into more times than Jordan.

That is an absolutely crazy price. Take a ferry over to France/Belgium for the day and get a 16V 309 Gti for half as much!

Plenty available here.
Here's another alternative; Citroen ZX Volcane. I found one for £950.
Uses the 1.9i 8v motor IIRC.

Had a rough 309 gti many years ago and lived it

Better handling than the 205 gti I had before it just as quick and a hell of a lot rarer

I had a 309 SRi from 1991-93 - it was a really great handling car and a lot subtler than either the 205/309 GTI.

When I swapped to a Mk2 Golf GTI I realised how sharp the Pug was. I still have a Mk2 though - Pugs not as durable.,

Because its a 309 and not a 205 its JDM so not properly rust proofed, likely has km/h dials and may even be restricted to 112kph , like many JDM cars of the era.
Its a personal thing but the 205 is a perfectly proportioned and beautiful thing - the 309 is not.
It's a Peugeot, not a domestically produced Japan manufactured car. It therefore wouldn't be restricted. If you look at the dealer's pictures, even the speedometer doesn't stop at 180km/h LOL.

I do believe undersealing is done on all cars imported from other countries to Japan, but in any case - there are better rust preventative measures that can be inexpensively added now, than 25+ years ago...

Any sane person would be mad to use a car as clean as this in winter though...

The mind boggles, LOL

I had a 205 gti when they came out it truly was a great car.mine was in white and looked fantastic! Unfortunately this where the 309gti lacks, it just never looked as good! As for 15k for a left hooker, not for me not even at 12k

I didn't state it was limited , just that its a japanese market car and will have an appropriate spec. Just because the speedo (definitely in Kph) reads higher doesn't mean it goes that fast!
Nevertheless , it is intrinsically a worse bet than a UK car would be even in worse condition.

I bought a white 309 GTI from a dodgy garage in Bradford but never once regretted it!

Great car, replaced it with an 8 valve golf gti, which was rubbish by comparison.

Closest modern car to the 309 gti is the Fiesta St both cars I regret selling.

No the 309 Gti didn't quite look as good your right but it handled better and if you had driven both you would understand. Only 82 309 Gtis left on the road and over 1100 205 Gti Otr so 309 Gti is a lot rarer but was never as popular I will give you that.

One can only wonder what this will acrrually fetch at auction, bearing in mind the price/mileage of the featured car:

We had a 1.9 and a 1.6 205 GTi at the same time for a couple of years. I've never been able to understand anyone who thought the 1.6 was better. I drove my wife's car many many times and my 1.9 was always faster and way more entertaining. Didn't understand why the 309 was desirable either... the 205 was beautiful, the 309 was a brick.

Yep that's nice that red one with only 15000 miles that sold for just over 14k at auction if I'm correct. It's 5 door though. I prefer the 3 door just my personal preference.

I believe that back in the day all imports into Japan had to be LHD. Stopped the domestic market filling up with European imports. The rules may well be the same today.

Nice one thanks for that magazine information you sent. My one is 1987 on an E plate 1 owner from new 3 door.Great handling and very responsive as I'm sure your aware.
I will probably take it to pug1 off for a service and a tune up.
They seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to pugs..
