Megane Trophy-R = £72k

Alright, so it's £50,000 without the 'ring record pack. But you need those carbon wheels, right?

Fully kitted out, the new Renault Sport Megane Trophy-R was never going to be cheap. This car, in case it had been forgotten, is a hot hatch with carbon rims, ceramic brakes and a feast of hardware from the A-list of motorsport suppliers: Sabelt, Ohlins, Akrapovic and so on. Now we know just what the cost will be for the 32 UK customers: £51,140 - or £72,140 with the Nürburgring Record Pack that brings those incredible wheels and brakes. A Carbon Wheel Pack pretty much splits the difference at £63,140, adding just the rims (which save 2kg a corner in unsprung mass) in addition to the standard fit items.

All Trophy-Rs will get the Sabelt seats (and no rear ones), an Alcantara wheel, a 7-inch R-Link screen (the larger 8.7-inch screen isn't available), Ohlins dampers and an Akrapovic exhaust. R.S. Performance options include a lithium-ion battery which saves 4.5kg, six-point harnesses and an "accessory ducting pipe for the dynamic air intake that feeds straight into the engine's intake system."

Finally, unlike previous Trophy-Rs and R26.Rs, this Trophy R will only be offered in a mother-of-pearl paint finish with red accents. It's available to order now, although it's not yet confirmed when the cars will arrive in the UK. Of course, if those new prices seem a little steep, those after a sensational Renault Sport Megane with a degree more urgency will still be very well served by this car's illustrious predecessors: both this Trophy-R and this R26.R are comfortably less than £30k...

Looks about the right price for the spec.

The spec is, however, very silly.

Normally I try adopt the neutral ground, and at least TRY to understand where the money has gone when I see/read of what appears to be an exorbitantly price vehicle. But £72k for this? £72,000 FOR A MEGANE?????

No how, no chance and no way will anyone ever be able to convince me this is worth the money or in any way makes sense. Ludicrous! So what they are saying is that: 'yep, we have now taken back the Nurburgring FWD Production Record, and this is a production car that you or anyone else can just walk off the street and buy'.

Just omitting the small little fact that they had to bloat out the car to £72k, in order to get that Ring Record! I'm actually getting angry about this now!!!

Playing devil's advocate a little, 16 years ago a new M3 CSL cost £58k. Leaving aside badge / powertrain / drivetrain differences between the two, you can now get something arguably even more focused and of limited availability starting at £51k

P.S. I know the CSL was discounted when new

for 73k you would expect a mid engined v6 turbo, ala F1, instead of just a lazy modded car.

I know it was an awfully long time ago but the V6 Clio was £26 grand new back when it launched.

I’m pleased Renault are still brave, I do love the look of this. But the pricing is insane.

Yes it’s special and rare but it makes the new A45S look like value for money.

As I posted on the other thread, an Abarth 695 with full spec listed at more than 78k euros - and that can’t brag about being particularly fast (if rather light weight though)

you couldn't build one cheaper yourself:

https://www.performancealloys.com/carbon-revolutio...

thats £4.5K PER wheel as a retail price on CF wheels... (still tyres to add) when you consider the base car is £51k, and the wheel pack takes it to £63K (tyres upgrade included) its actually cheaper MUCH cheaper to spec the car from the factory...

If you stat with a more expensive car, you end up with an even more expensive car...

How are those belts deemed safe? Certainly not within the ideal range of 20degs

There is a perfectly acceptable strut brace, why couldnt they use that?

I think it might tempt more people into a standard Trophy, maybe thats the point? I like it but it's a bit of a unicorn, I could never actually park it anywhere with those wheels either lol.

Awesome,

I bet if you were to buy all the special bits separately they'll come in to a heap more than £40k.
Special car, super special parts.

Bargain price biggrin
