The ad states that the car has been fitted with a cat back Stainless steel system but that the 'original black twin square pipe back box' is also with the car.

Oh, and the car is now 'reserved' silly

I just can't believe the asking price of £20K - it is just not special enough. As soon as it gets a bit of road grime on it and few scratches on the alloy wheels it will look like a contender for shed of the week rather than a £20K left of field classic. Assuming it is actually used - but surely not important enough for a museum or pampered collection, unless Vauxhall are buying it back for the their heritage collection?

For £6-8K, yes, maybe, but then only for the dedicated Griffin admirer...

Everyone is trying to get silly prices for average old cars. As said above, road grime and alloys scuffed and its the next PH shed.

It's interesting but no more than that

This car got me looking at Xr4x4's(had 2 of them in the past) and I've seen one for sale at similar money to this. Don't get me wrong I'd love another Xr4x4 but no way would I pay this money for one.

Had a cavalier 16v sri, same engine, many years ago took it from 100k miles to 197k miles and all i ever did was change the brakes and service it. And a couple of cam belts, but that was servicing really. certainly the most reliable car I ever had. and superb fun as well (for a rep mobile)

It doesn't matter what the car is, be it something sought after or not. If it is mint, very low mileage and rare, you can name your price. You just need to find one person with the money who really wants it. My guess is it will just go into a collection and continue living a "pampered life"!

I prefer the earlier 130 SRI version. The handling was even more "enjoyable", though not as enjoyable as the Mk2 Astra GTE which liked to go around bends on the other side of the road unless you lifted off. If you lifted off you still went around the corner on the wrong side of the road but backwards. At least the Cavalier had a slightly longer wheelbase to give you a 5% fighting chance...

To be fair a lot of this was due to tyre technology in those days.

Well spotted, I believe they were.

Probably didn't last the test of time, even with 27k.
I thought it was the Irmscher exhaust that had the square tips?

I’d want John Cleland’s actual BTCC car for £20k redface

I guess there’s now enough of us fortysomethings with some spare cash in the bank that want a piece of ‘90s nostalgia, but even so that’s a bonkers price for a car that’s going to be crap by any modern standard.

Like a lot of the posters on here my old man had one of these as a company car back in the day.

He also had the 405Mi16

The 405 handled so much better, having the rack attached to the bulkhead on the Cav' meant the steering was not the nicest.

In fairness the Red top was probably a bit gruntier but overall the Peugeot was a far better car.

ISTR all the road tests from the day saying the same thing.

He also had a Cav' 2.0 8V 4X4. Good luck finding one of those now!

I can't see anyone paying 20K for this. For that I'd be expecting delivery mileage not 27K.

Having said that it has got the dealer some good exposure for free.. maybe that's the point.

Wow I think he slipped a bit on the zero key didn't he!?

Wholly unremarkable car that was aspirational maybe if your criteria was strictly something depressingly cavalier shaped, even though I think 75+% of expensive old fords are over rated/priced at least the xr4i I saw t other day had some funky 80s kitsch going on and made me smile.

No, the factory exhaust had square tips.

My first full time job was working in the parts department of a Vauxhall dealer in 1995, I'm saddened by how much Vauxhall knowledge I can remember laugh

Makes the £100k Lotus Carlton seem a bargain in comparison.

Nice motors, but not worth £20k IMO. Maybe to the die-hard aficionados.

I had my second xr4x4 for 5.5 years before it was written off back in 2001, and I got the chance to drive my mates Dads xr4x4 around 10 years later. I will admit that I wasn't that impressed with it to be fair, and the rose tints certainly can take hold.

25 years ago when I had my first xr4x4 though I did think that it was the absolute bees knees(I'd come out of a Metro 1275 Sport though!) but times change for sure.

I can't help but love these cars of that era though, and I can understand why many people around my age get serious nostalgia for them(even though they will be slow and drive pretty badly).

I am sorry but that price is just ridiculous. Values on cars like this are unsustainable and some point there is a big crash coming and when it does a lot of people are going to be taking a bath.

I mean £20000k for a Cavalier that if you want to keep the value in you can only drive to owners meetings and Breakfast Clubs? Bonkers.
I know it's a mistake, but biglaugh

Not one to comment on 'classic' values but st the bed, 20k?

Who is going to want this in say another 20 years, it's hardly an air cooled 911, it's a Cavalier!

Madness...
