I bought a phase 2 Clio V6 255 MODEL number 244, what a car I loved it. I never had any problems apart from the price of spares which carried a V6 Clio
tax, luckily my local Peugeot dealer had a list of parts that fitted most pugs and also fitted the Clio V6. I kept the car for 7 years before changing it for a more practical car that allowed you to get more than 6 cartons of milk in the boot .

Awesome cars that carry some presence when they’re in front of you. If memory serves me correct they’re not a Clio with a body kit but tailored from scratch by Renault. The prices have gone insane recently but then so has anything defined as classic.
Incorrect, it's a standard Clio shell, stuck on a jig and plasma cut out, then a load of turrets and bracing welded in the back and sills.

It's a Clio in a shell suit.

Not all Phase 1s were created equal. Cars such as my old Illiad had some Phase 2 parts e.g. subframe, from the factory as the 'colour' cars were very late builds.

Better cars? Plenty! Porsche Boxster for £5k? Mid engine, 6-cyl, badge, handling, etc - it's 'better'. I don't think you buy these because they're better than anything, really. It's the X factor and as our special friend has shown; you'd be hard pushed to pay less for something more special.

Sticking to the Porsche theme - look at what is being asked for a Cayman R because they are so 'special' (vs a 'standard', equivalent 987).

I simply couldn't work out what to replace my first one with. I wanted to keep a hot hatch and looked at 205 GTis, Clio Williams, etc but the real value is in the V6. What would be asked for a less than 5k mile 205 GTi/Williams... probably ~£40kish?

There's just nothing quite like a V6. They really get under your skin. I'd love to try an R5T2 but the entry point is way, way higher.
I can't agree - and I've driven V6 Clios pretty extensively as I have several friends who have owned or still owned them. Surely how a car drives is a big part of what makes it special. I like the cartoonish looks and the noise , the Phase 2s are a decent steer at 8/10s. But I'd rather have an R32 GTR, an E24 M6, Alpine GTA or A610, Esprit V8, Exige, a Noble, Audi R8 V8, 996 Turbo, 928, Griffith, Tuscan, NSX, DB7 , Vantage all much cheaper and that's without even thinking!

Everyone is free to disagree smile

Usually not many cars on the market at any time suggests owners love 'em and, as you say, those owners could chop them in for any/all of the cars you have mentioned if they sold and they do sell (I sold then bought last month).

I had a trackday Porsche 996 put together for me by Autofarm (documented on here) a few years back and I've owned the V6(s) far longer than I had that (or any other car).

I worked at Lotus (Motorsport) the first time I saw a V6 and I've never considered an Esprit/Elise/Exige instead... However, I'd quite happily own many of the cars you mention in addition to a V6.

Different strokes for different folks but I would think they are more of a third car and probably not the sort of car that someone looking for a primary, secondary, track day, etc, etc car would have at the top of their list. You buy it for the crazy, not necessarily the driving experience (which I love).

Will they continue to appreciate? Who knows. But what other car is definitively more 'special' in that price bracket or for a lot less?
Having had both I found the 968 CS to be very capable but it just didn’t feel that “special” or really have a sense of occasion when you drove it. I had the 968 CS just under 2 years, had the V6 for nearly 6 now..

Is that a 924 Carrera GT/GTS? Low miles and £40k? Found one here: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1139250
924 CGT asking prices seem to have been yoyo-ing for the last few years between £35k - £75k for examples with less than 100k miles

Couple of other alternatives I'd throw into the mix at this sort of price:

I get what you're saying about feeling "special", but for me a car has to have the performance to back up the looks. Talk of the V6 being no quicker than a 182 etc, turned me off owning one.

Exactly what mine is, S60 daily, Meglio (Megane turbo powered Mk3 Clio RS) for hoons, and the V6 for pimping around like a boss.

That’s a shame, I’ve always thought a CS would be a perfect blend? Was it the engine which made it feel slightly ordinary?

SZ was a good shout Leins but the ones in the classifieds suggest the prices are way above what we're talking here, for the mileage.

Z3M is another interesting one but sufficiently 'special' vs a standard Z3 compared to a 172/186 vs a V6? Still don't see it. Some classifieds extrapolation also suggests a very low miles car would also ask a fair bit more money. Maybe even more than the SZ.

Surely it's not even worth considering/comparing what someone would ask for a really low mile 968CS?

As others have pointed out - a low-ish mile V6 can still be picked up for ~£20k.

I appreciate that some people would rather buy other cars for the money but all these suggestions only seem to prove the point that this is simply not a £15k car (or whatever number people seem to think), in THIS market, when compared to other 'collectible'/'special' cars, many of which are built in far higher numbers and have fewer differentiators from the standard cars they're often based on.

Feel like a thread that should be celebrating the V6 is getting cluttered with discussion of other cars! Apologies for issuing what was clearly perceived as a challenge! wink

Don’t get me wrong Dom, I absolutely love the V6, and I agree that of the low mileage stipulation is made for all other options then I don’t believe there is as special a car for that sort of money. I’m so glad they exist

Well you introduced the subject of cars for the same or less money. Personally I think one of these would run rings around a Clio V6.

had many cars over the years that'd run rings around the Clio V6.......would I have any of them back instead of the Clio V6?.....not a chance.

By the way, we get you don't like them biggrin

Nope - "...what other car is definitively more 'special' in that price bracket..."

If you think a front engine Porsche, of any variety, fulfils that criteria; all power to you.

I grew up with 924Ts, 944s and a 944S2. I love 'em. More special than a V6? Not to me. If others think otherwise - cool.

I'd have 944S2 in heart beat... Would make a nice station car to keep the V6 for pimping around like a boss! [credit DaveL485]

Good for you. I wouldn't give any of those garage space though.

Yes, I think it was ultimately the engine / noise that seemed to lack any “excitement”... but it certainly went and handled well.
