Agree, a manual option would be worth paying extra for in a car like this, and the weight reduction would be a bonus.

Is a manual option in the plan at all for this car?

Or is all the architecture based on the auto/ DCT, therefore no manual gearbox and associated gubbins would fit?
Alpine have said several times that building the car as a manual would be heavier; the gearbox itself would be lighter, of course, but the linkages and (in particular) the additional reinforcement needed from having the linkage tunnel bit (using my best automotive engineering words) would result in it being heavier if they wanted it to be as stiff. It's therefore all based around the auto as you say, which I'd think means it's not possible to plonk a manual in at all.

I do sort-of get the desire some have for a manual gearbox, but the A110 really is jolly good to drive as it is. The race version has a sequential if that'd help at all...

When I've priced up an S for curiosity's sake it's not come in vastly more expensive than a Pure or Legende, but I don't want the matte paint (I think that's eight grand or so!), the bigger brakes, or the carbon roof. Frankly though I don't want a stiffer version and the normal one is (for me) terrifyingly quick. Also the S can't have heated seats.

They look nice and it is nice having lighter driver focused cars about..... but likely mid-60k by the time options ticked! That seems quite strong for a the rejuvenated brand when looking at rival cars.

The gearbox automatically rules this car out as a purchase in any variant for me anyway. Also 60k for a 4 cylinder car also makes me wince a bit.

It’s great the car has been made, reviews seem okay and fair play to those who make this choice of car, but I see it as a brave choice.
Reviews are amazing.

There's a waiting list on buying one.

56k is with a lots of options.

Most 'sports' cars are manual now days.

Really don’t like the way these look. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it just looks wrong.

Then again I seem to be in the minority who think the Supra looks amazing so maybe I’m just odd...!

FWIW, I think it looks awful too. Shame as it’s just the sort of car I want (ignoring the gearbox).

That puts it at the same price point as the Exige Sport 350.

That represents a sizeable increase over the £46,905 charged for the bare-bones Pure, but when you consider that the carbon fibre roof (a £2,208 option), active sports exhaust (£1,380) and carbon-backed bucket seats (£1,656) are all included along with the rest of the upgrades, that gap starts to close fairly quickly.

Perhaps the way I'm reading it, but that paragraph makes it sound like they're included as standard. They aren't. So if you wanted all of these then the car will cost you over £60k+.
This! Come on pistonheads at least read the press release properly.

FWIW the 7 speed manual in the 991 is a PDK box reengineered to work from a stick. I haven't compared weights but there is certainly a precedent for providing a manual

Correct. I read it to say the carbon roof, exhaust and carbon seats are all included for £56k. As you say, they aren’t - only the exhaust.

A lot of the other options that you may well go for on a Pure are standard on the S though, so the gap between a decent spec. Pure and an S is about 5/6k. That’s the price you pay for being able to keep your warranty.

If you don’t like the paint and wheels, you can get an S in the blue with anthracite Fuchs style wheels. Or white/anthracite which would be my preferred combo.

The roof saves 2 kilo so, for me, would be hard to justify.

Thanks for the clarifications. PH could have just told us there was a new one and what the price is rather than peddle wrong information.

Well if you name drop where the factory is, it lets everyone know you like your cars a lot, which is crucial for a car journo. confused
Since no-one has answered this (I thought someone would): Alpine are built in Dieppe (not Diep). Which might suggest said journo knows a lot about cars, but less about northern France.

So lovely, but that's a very strong price.

I went on the configurator to see what colours were available only to find a fairly uninspiring collection, but no feee option whatsoever so it seems the price is at least £57950 or £61250 with that matt grey.

The extra 40bhp, how's it acquired - remap or upgraded engine internals?

I really like this, as a new car it’s an interesting proposition.

Seems sales of 2 seater sports cars are in the toilet (with BMW rumoured to already be contemplating the death of the new Z4) so the only real, new competition for this is the cayman/boxer, lotus and at the other end of the scale the MX5.

Out of all of the above I’d have to choose this or the cayman and this might well win because of the weight.

Not sure about the internals, some stuff never gets out to the public. New ball bearing turbo and new active exhaust was in the press release for the megane 300 at least.
