I'd love a 24 hours period with a car like this, to just sit down, with plenty of light, silence and a few drinks to full appreciate, absorb and soak up every last detail on the car.

Vastly more appealing that most hypercars on the market and of the same ilk as Pagani.

One day, I hoe they'll do 996's and then i'll be able to make what I consider, the perfect porsche. Even if it is water-cooled.

Utterly stunning.

I still cannot understand the price tag though, my ignorance.
I'm guessing that you are just looking at the sum of the parts and what it would cost to physically make such a thing which will indeed be much less than the price tag.

However, when you look at the project as a whole and realise that the run of 75 cars (earning $135 million) probably cost them $100+ million, then the $1.8m price tag for one starts to become more justified.
Think about the design costs, the trial and error costs, the testing, the specialist involvement, the development work with an F1 team, the many many many man hours that went in to creating this. If they did a credits list, i am certain it would be as long as a summer blockbuster movie.

In fact, a block buster movie is a good comparison. You watch a movie and think it's good or bad. It's hard to put into perspective how they managed to spend $200m on it until you see the 10 minute long credits at the end. The difference is that they are trying to get, at least, 20 million people to spend $10 to watch it to break even.
I don't know what the break even point will be for Singer, but i can bet that they have put a large amount of thought into exactly how many they can sell and at what price tag (similar to Ferrari, "build one less than you can sell")

The main point i am getting at is that it costs manufacturers many hundreds of millions to develop even a regular car from scratch. Add to that the difficulty of re-designing a classic car to modern day standards whilst keeping the look, feel and soul intact. Then realise that every inch of the original car is agonisingly re-designed and tested to the Nth degree and you might start to get a feel for where that $1.8m price tag comes from.

Although i imagine that the best way to get a feel for where that $1.8m has gone, would be to just have a seat in it.

The thing that people sometimes forget about Porsche is that their ethos is to over engineer everything. Hence the "evolution not revolution" slogan.

The truly remarkable thing about Singer is that they have taken a car that was heavily over engineered at the time of creation and they have managed to heavily over engineer it by even modern day standards.
To call what they do restomodding is a vast oversimplification. They are so far above all other restomodders that the word for what they do has not been created yet.

I made a comment earlier that these will eventually be bought by knobs.
I’ll take that back.

These are far too subtle to be bought by the rich and ignorant, who will go with the more obvious choices.

It's another Porsche 911. The only way you could get more obvious would be to buy a red Ferrari.

It’s an ‘old Porsche’ as far as the Knightbridge brigade are concerned and really not impactful enough for their purposes.

Quite. Can't see any DLS making their way into collections next to chrome-wrapped, massive winged Lambos or Rocket Bunny GTRs. They'll sit alongside '74 2.7 RS and most probably Singer Classics.

in saying that, it's still a bit much of a visual overload for my tastes. My preference would a half-way house with most of the DLS components underneath the Classic body. I really don't see the need for downforce and huge rubber on a road car. But then I guess I'd have a Classic for the road and a DLS for track work! Y'know, in my little luftgekuhlt dream world cloud9

I’ve never liked singers , "poncy" I reckon . I can’t stand backdates and such ilk . Nothing wrong with a hot rod but this DLS is a different animal .
It’s a new car , bespoke everything , engine , gearbox , suspension , you name it and it’s bespoke , it’s a 964 in name alone . I’m aware of the extensive testing and engineering and it’s all very very promising .
It’s been a very very long time since I got excited about a new car . Zondas make me yawn , koenigsegg engineering is interesting but the cars are too ott for me .
More and more I go back in time with purchases now but this DLS has me counting the days like a child waiting for his birthday .
Once Richard told me how the damn thing drives, I was hooked , I trust Richard tuthil above most people on this earth and his description of the car was simply too much to ignore .
I’m counting the days until I get mine , it’s going to be some form of dark green (undecided on the exact shade ) with a very very dark brown chocolatey interior .
