With less power than the Ford approved Mountune Fiesta ST or ST200.
But a limited-slip diff, adjustable dampers, lighter wheels and a much, much, much better interior. I would wager that this car would be faster round a track than a Mountune MK7.
You don't think a slipper, KW's and light wheels can be fitted to a MK7?

The one that made me double-take was the £45k 320d auto - a few options admittedly but you see loads floating about on the roads
The new 320d auto even in high spec M Sport is under £33k after discount so that's £10k less than thaT even if you had £2k of gadgets (base price list is £38k).

The £45k is one of those absurd "as tested" press spec car and of little relevance.

To go back OT, unless it's heavily discounted, this is exactly the price of a discounted Megane RS 280 Cup...

Oh yes, no doubt cheaper to get a discounted one - it was more, like Lee said , just surprise at the fact you can spec up a 320d to those sort of nigh on 50k levels with a few ‘packs’ and xdrive

You can buy one with four doors and a diff. Does it matter how many cylinders it has?
I know people bleat on about not comparing new/used.
But I might buy new or nearly new, or old and used. I always have done.

I’m not paying top notch money for a cheap 3 cylinder turbo.

The small capacity 4 cylinder turbo was acceptable, but losing a cylinder and capacity just reeks of cheapness to me.

Have you actually tried one? The fact it's a 3 cylinder has nothing to do with being cheap. The Mk7 with 4 cylinders put out 200 bhp this new one does the same so all the development of the 3 cylinder engine was for free? The new engine is far better than you think ok it doesn't shed revs as well as a 4cylinder but that is inherent to 3 cylinders anyway. Try one

You could, but that would be a modified, used car, not a warrantied, new one.

What's cheap about it? Engine development moves on. Manufacturers are looking to cut emissions and make cars cleaner. The three-pot helps with that aim. 25 years ago, to have a 200bhp engine would have required six cylinders or a 2.0-litre turbo four-pot. It's called progress.

I found the 3-cyl in the current ST to be far, FAR more interesting and entertaining than the old 1.6 4-cyl in the last one.

It's the way all engines are going though - the current crop of three cylinder engines are pretty good little things. The three cylinder in my other half's MINI was a much nicer, more interesting engine that the four cylinder ones from previous cars.

I've not driven the Ford three cylinder, but people seem to rave about it.

3 cylinders doesn't bother me but no matter how many times I revisit the new Fiesta, the looks just don't work, for me. Gopping front and dull rear. It's lost it's "personality".

Not even vibrant orange can save it.

Exactly. The 3-cyl has loads of character compared to yet another 4 banger.

Which is totally irrelevant if someone is looking to buy a new car. And you'd better hope people keep doing that because, if they don't, you won't be able to have your modified MK7.

One day, people will realise that comparing new and old is largely pointless.

I bought a brand new car, and I don't have a modified MK7. Are you going to buy a new Fiesta with some bling for £26k?

I'm not, because I'm not in the market for a new car right now. I'm sure there are people out there that would though.

Would you ever spend £26k of your own money on a 3 cylinder Fiesta?

FFS what has the number of cylinders got to do with anything? If a 3 cylinder engine is more advanced than a 4 cylinder engine is it only luddites like you that will keep buying older technology because anything new must be witchcraft???

Indeed. Soon cars will have no cylinders so he wouldn't buy one even for 50p.

Autocar has named the 3 cyl fiesta st as the third best car you can buy in the UK today. Awful car.

Miss my fiesta 1.0t, great drive.
