Looks stunning and sounds like it is going to be an absolute weapon.

But how much is this all going to cost now...

I'm two years into my RS6PE and really like the car as an all rounder, very comfortable, swallows people and luggage and goes like stink. The downside is the size and weight, the C8 looks even wider and though it is a wee bit lighter I doubt it will feel like a roller skate. I will probably change before it's third birthday and will be tempted but I may go RS4/5 and have a couple of good holidays with the change. Very interested to hear of anyone who gets behind the wheel, especially current C7 owners.

Merc seemed to have quietly dropped the non "S" E63 estate, so the nearest AMG equivalent starts at £94645. I reckon this will only be a couple of grand cheaper in base spec. £92K...

if it follows the regulation compliant RS3 and RS4s currently available there will be very few options and will come pretty loaded, my monies on the 110k range

Makes the F90 M5 and the E63S look quite lame.

You don't need to be at top speed to use all the BHP, but you do have to be near the top of the rev range, because that's how BHP works.
no, _being_ near the top of the rev range is not how BHP works. You need to _floor it_ near the top of the rev range. Hence, the only situation where you can extract max power or thereabouts for any meaningful length of time is a top speed run. Or dyno.
But even if we accept the tenths of seconds in first and second as justification for buying a 600 hp car, the question remains: who does that on a daily basis, i.e. going full throttle at 6000 rpm in a car that has brutal torque from 1500.

Great to see some retro biscuit / tan hide back after so many years of accountant grey and coal bunker black. I like Audis and I'm sure it's a weapon. That said, something about these mega quick, mega grippy, inert exocets, regardless of manufacturer, leaves me cold. They may be brilliant from a stats perspective, but are they any fun?

Sadly these are just press shots and Audi UK will likely kill the tan leather option over here just like with the C7 and RS4. Same with Merc C63. Tan options in Europe, not over here.

With black pack looks a lot better

For some reason, reminds me of a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica.
In a good way.

M5 is designed to be subtle. Get M3 or 4 for "aggression".

V4 DER is a 4wd vehicle, albeit one at the opposite end of the performance spectrum - a Defender!

That plate is on a tricked out Defender (black of course) which visits the neighbours. It looks very cool

RS sports suspension sounds interesting, similar tech to what McLaren has on the 720s
It's nothing new - B7 RS4 was first to use this concept (albeit I'm sure it's been modified since then).

Difference is the Audi system still uses traditional ARBs whereas the maclaren system uses hydraulics as a substitute.
DRC was used on the C5 RS6 I think?

Me too. Big range, quiet, comfy, fit loads in it. And a sports car with non of the above but more fun.

Considering this will cost £110k with all the sporty chassis, brake, engine, suspension options you could get a brand new Boxster GTS and a A6 sport 45 TFSI quattro
Only prob with that is running two cars doesn't suit everyone and extra costs of insurance, tax, parking space and general servicing etc ...if you need one family wagon with serious performance hard to look past tbh...had a C7 RS6 for 4 years and it was a pleasure to own did many the long run in Europe and it was comfortable, fast with lots of luggage space...these will make a lovely buy in 3 yrs time when they are 40k cheaper! The black or carbon styling packs will sort out the fussy rear end from the pics
That was my problem. I had a tvr t350 with a 4.3 engine and a jeep grand Cherokee. I found I had time coupled with decent weather for the tvr on only a handful of occasions and usage dropped to less than 1k a year in it.
So I sold both and in March purchased a c7 RS6 performance.
It does the relaxed cruise effortlessly, does luggage, tip runs, family trips etc. very well and when you want it really is an absolute beast of a wagon.
The only thing that I'm jealous of with mine versus the new one is that the c7 stick with the old tech to long and the infotainment system is a little archaic for such a car only a couple of years old.

Pretty standard on PH alot of armchair know-it-alls with no first hand experience of the car in question ...loved my RS would he tempted to have the new one in a couple of yrs
Exactly.

The RS6 is a great example of flexible, any gear performance which is actually perfectly usable. It also creates overtaking opportunities that you cannot contemplate doing in a regular car. I found plenty of opportunities to stretch mine's legs.

That's not meant to be condescending (I drove to work in my Smart car today), but driving truly is believing.
I suppose I qualify as armchair as I haven't driven one, but then I don't dispute it being a great car, great driving, performance and usability. What I do disagree with is that it is necessarily the best one car answer IF you can't have multiple cars AND enjoy sports cars, more specifically light(ish) cars. Something non-armchair PH'ers confirm, it is many things but it's not a nimble sportscar.

So yes I might dismiss the RS6 as the greatest one car since sliced bread without driving it, based on others opinions with actual experience, and instead point towards hot/hyper estate (estate version of a hot/hyper hatch), fully understading it's something else, that's the whole point. Just like power estates (RS6/E63S/Panamera ST) there isn't much choice and perhaps a bit underappreciated as most attention goes to the hatches. The irony is that hot/hyper hatches also get criticised for being 'heavy and too fast for the road' and being 'too refined and uninvolving' (the latter leading me on the modification route to answer that one car question even better). It depend what you compare with and what the expectations are.

That is disregarding all the other reasons one might like the RS6, many love it already without haven driven it also, C7 and certainly this C8... It's more than just a fast estate, representing many human motivators beyond pure driving enjoyment (which comes in many different tastes). The 'you haven't driven it' cuts both/many ways then... So does stereotyping... Some like it, some don't, we can all write it here, maybe learn a few things in the process...

Cheers
