I had an 04 “big boot” VXR, converted to run on Lpg, great car, although I do remember leaving the office to a snow shower, after going sideways down the road and spinning at the first roundabout I took the works van home!

That colour really suits it. I don't think I've seen one like that before. Lovely car! smile

Thanks. It’s called Odyssey blue and was offered for VZ CV8s only so only a handful of U.K. cars. The longer I keep it the more special it feels.

I loved mine which I bought new. It made short work of delivering the hat boxes to Turin for my wedding in 06.

Ebay ribbons stayed on north of 160mph too.

How are these holding up for rust now they are 10+ years old? Mechanically I'd say no brave pills are required, but if you're fighting rust you'll always loose.

Had mine undersealed and it now lives in a warm garage. No rust at all. However many are a 15 year old car and they do rust underneath if not cared for.

I had this 6.0 VXR for a while. It was already debadged when I bought it; every so often you'd see bemused people at petrol stations trying to figure out what it was. Mine was completely standard. I did test drive one with Wortec exhaust, Pedders suspension, quickrack and AP Racing brakes which I should have bought in hindsight. The standard exhaust was too quiet, particularly so as I'd come from a TVR. It was an event though, driving something with a Corvette engine and Dodge Viper gearbox that looked like it should be going down Conrod Straight at Bathurst.

Although it went like stink in a straight line, the steering was quite slow, with the wheel from a London bus and very marginal brakes. I was occasionally paranoid about parking it at Tesco; the HSV bodykit parts are absolutely eye-wateringly expensive. I think the 3-part rear spoiler alone was something like £1500 unpainted. I only sold it to get something I could use on track without needing to own a tyre warehouse. Wish I'd kept it in retrospect and just bought a trackday MX5 for a few grand but hey ho. They're great cars. I've only ever seen one other on the road in the last few years, a standard CV8 filling-up in Lincolnshire recently which the new owner had just bought.

Seeing as we are posting pics of our old Monaros, here's a couple of my old one.

Had a blue CV8 for a couple of years. Fabulous car, every day was an adventure especially around the roundabouts in Milton Keynes. Had no issues at all. Wish I still had it. Totally standard car. Fettled by the now sadly defunct Holden/Corvette experts Monkfish Performance.

it's funny, I lusted after a monaro in the UK but as soon as I moved to Aus I lost interest as they're relatively common

But LS1 reliability, v8 grunt and a big wafty coupe - what's not to love?

Love these. Not too many here in Perth, WA. Starting to be valued more.
The LS engines are so easy to upgrade it isn’t funny. Sound great when fettled.
Got to agree with many others as definitely not a “brave pill” car.

I have a 20 year old HSV 4 door. Its on 133000 mile now ,and has been in the UK since new. Its had 2 small rust patches now, one on the firewall where it meets the back of the front arch n/s , and one on the o/s strut tower. Both caused by the seam sealer failing. The chassis legs and sills are fine.
Ive done 25k in it now, The lsd went duff, and ive done an alternator. Even chucked a cam and headers on it.

I had a 2007 Silver VXR previously owned by a Vauxhall GM of sorts. It was a nearly new, manual which was fantastic. Brakes were questionable but did work, clutch and gear change was at best a novelty whilst commuting in and out of Putney - only thing that made it bearable was the V8 rumble and the thumbs up and waves from admirers!

Only mod was an upgraded the stereo so I had Nav and Bluetooth and under body greasing so it was more salt proof that it was designed to be.

Only real costs were tyres, fuel (16 mpg average!) and it did eat a car battery early on which lead to some rather amusing antics pushing it around so I could jump it from a mates car - those V8's take some cranking!

The poor thing ended in an insurance write off due to the hectic cost of acquiring official parts from Australia. The accident was mild but shipping parts over from Aus wasn't! Now I live in Aus they're seen everywhere and not as special IMHO.

Hi all. The advert has been removed by myself, the owner, as whilst on holiday I decided I liked it too much and wish to carry out a few further mods. It’s been great owning this car, great fun, head turner and something different, which is what I like about cars; the unusual. I agree with the comment made that they seem to be selling way too cheap but even at the price advertised, there was little interest. So, I’m going to keep it and have lots more fun.

Great article and it’s made my day that my car featured in it.

What's with all this "brave pill" nonsense pushed on here these days? Do PH writers drive Toyota Corrolla's under warranty as they are too scared of their own shadow?!

Love that colour, my mate had one in that same rare colour, supercharged, sounded awesome. Our other mate has a 6.0 one, in bright red, noisy exhausts etc. Also fantastic.
