Hi all. The advert has been removed by myself, the owner, as whilst on holiday I decided I liked it too much and wish to carry out a few further mods. It’s been great owning this car, great fun, head turner and something different, which is what I like about cars; the unusual. I agree with the comment made that they seem to be selling way too cheap but even at the price advertised, there was little interest. So, I’m going to keep it and have lots more fun.

Great article and it’s made my day that my car featured in it.
Surely this article has boosted your potential market massively - assuming anyone actual reads ph other than the few of us commenting here. I guess if you're keeping it then fair play but I'd of at least taken advantage of the increased exposure and seen what happens. Enthusiast cars like this always take time to sell. Dont get disheartened after a couple of weeks. Hang on in there.

Love that colour, my mate had one in that same rare colour, supercharged, sounded awesome. Our other mate has a 6.0 one, in bright red, noisy exhausts etc. Also fantastic.
Thanks, it’s an absolute monster. Use it very rarely these days and it’s garaged so apart from the odd stone chip, is pretty much perfect. Should sell it really so somebody else can enjoy it but I know I’d instantly regret it.

What's with all this "brave pill" nonsense pushed on here these days? Do PH writers drive Toyota Corrolla's under warranty as they are too scared of their own shadow?!

Wormus, your car is spot on. I agree the colour is awesome too.

Although is it wrong... I'm staring at that sweet inspection pit even more. Something very cool about that pic. Clean working space. Also.... I kinda expect to hear "Step away from her you bh!!" - as Ripley clunks out in a yellow caged lifter biggrin

Thanks, I wish it were my garage but sadly it belongs to Top Cats racing who maintain the car for me. Mine’s probably one of the cheapest cars they look after as there’s always lots of exotic stuff (Lambos etc) down there to ogle.

Wormus' car is definitely the best colour for a Monaro, just a shame they never sold the VXR in that colour over here. Always loved the plate too.

Here's my 2004 VXR at Caffeine and Machine over the Bank Holiday weekend.

I was thinking of making one of these:

In the end I prefer the look of the CV8

Indeed. You only have to search for Audi RS timing chains v LS belts. This highlights the German approach (ultra over complicated) v KISS

Go on then, if we're doing photos of our old cars, here's mine.

I keep finding myself looking at the classifieds and contemplating getting rid of the Caterham and getting another, think I'd like a supercharged one if I do though.

Great photos guys. I'd love one of these for a sensible daily. I can't get a huge amount in mine.

LS engines also have a timing chain, driving a single camshaft.

....assuming that’s what you meant?

Yep, lovely and simple as could be. No multiple chains and guides. Or £8000 bill from Audi to swap them, as per RS.

You get what you pay for though. These engines dont like to rev and the rotating assembly is quite heavy. You cant really compare them to the multiple valve, multiple cam, variable valve time engines from germany which all make more power with less cc.

Who told you that? LS engines have been continuously developed over decades. The red line on mine is set to 7k rpm which is pretty good for a 6.2 litre. An LS3 will easily match the equivalent from AMG.

This one makes more than your average NA AMG Lot cheaper too if it goes wrong

Or here’s another GM LS crate engine, this time with 755hp

https://www.chevrolet.com/performance/crate-engine...

Find me a German equivalent that can live with that.

The ls1 I had in my e46 felt a bit unhappy above about 5500 so I didn't bother revving much higher than that. It had a bit of a hotter cam and some other bits and bobs. The amg 6.2 red lines at 8000. That's an awesome engine.

+1

the LS family of engines is legendary

smaller in size than equivalent DOHC engines

more affordable

fewer parts

lighter

typically less maintenance

typically fewer faults

and a torque curve that begins early in the RPM band -- a massive advantage for the performance minded motorist

My dream car will likely have an LS crate engine.

I couldn't care less what overly complicated offering Germany comes out with. To me that's irrelevant.
