I think obsessing about door handles is just that, obsession.

Porsche haven't lost their way at all, the car continues to develop and improve within modern day constraints and requirements.

For those who aren't old enough to remember the original 911, here is a review.

When Harris changes his mind and says the handles are fine then everyone can calm down again.

I think with their sales numbers NA simply wasn't an option any more if they were to meet regs.

I can’t believe they didn’t look at the 928 legacy and build a beautiful, fast and modern version of that instead of ruining the 911!

I would like that car too, but 98 per cent of this forum alone would describe such a thing as "dangerously underpowered" and lease a Golf instead

Well, we keep hearing that they're going to do that as well

Mm. Except that the Panamera isn’t fit to lick the boots of the 928 from a style perspective whether it has one door, two doors or forty two doors.

Sure it’s not a track weapon like a GT3, or have the character of an aircooled 911, but for those purchasing their first 911, it’ll still be great. It can be taken to a track day and with a bit of tuition from the passenger seat a lot of fun can be had. Then it can be driven home again. The shock will be the first track day insurance quote!

The 991.2 Carrera T is a great package at the money. The smart money on this rather than the 992.

Only 174 UK cars so rarer than the 981 Spyder.

Mine sold in a few days at just under list £ 2k miles basic comfort spec 'Manuel' pcm T pack and that's it.

Very similar to the 997.1 in many respects including sound.

As the last of the narrow bodied Carreras a guaranteed future classic no brainer imo.

Several people above have compared to the 928, I had a '93 928 GTS & now have a 993. Weight of the GTS was (iirc) 1640 kg, 993 is 1350 kg. 992 is getting uncomfortably close ( just a very skinny passenger less) to 928 weight. 2.7 RS was under a 1000kg ( yeah - airbags, air con + 101 other modern safety & luxury necessities ) , they're getting fat.
928 was the widest car made in Germany, at the time.

I remember 15 years ago supercars could be driven by schoolkids. Don't try that with a Diablo or 930. This new 992 is a similar thingy. Anyone can drive it and enjoy themselves. Slow or quick, on the tracks or to Tesco's: it does everything and without a hiccup.

I'd kill myself if I had one BTW. It's that easy and that quick. Had one for a day and I believe the local papers are still writing about it.

82 grand my @rse, who ever specced a porsche without ticking an options box?
That's a good point! Car did have options, but prices only quoted in euros, so didn't seem right to mix up currencies. There'll be a full spec when we drive a UK car.

Cheers!

There's really not enough of a £/€ difference to worry about, these days

Matt
I have just specced and ordered car and was pleasantly surprised at how many things are now standard compared to last time I bought a 911 in 2015.
STD equipment includes :
Full leather inc dash
Heated seats
Cruise control
PCM Satnav
Pasm
Front and rear parking sensors

I think std wheels look fine so only options I have specced are metallic, vented seats and adaptive cruise
so less than £3k options and just under £87k OTR. No other options I can see that would be worthwhile?

I think I own just about the cheapest new 911, just thought I would resurrect this old thread to tell how I have got on with it.

I bought one of these new at the end of last year.

I had considered a nearly newish second hand 991.2. However, they are still a chunk of change, so why not get a new one with warranty?

I wanted the cheapest 911 Porsche could offer brand new. So I ordered an Adventurine Carrera 2 in October 2019.

The last thing the salesman at Porsche said to me when he handed the keys over was see you in 2 years or 20,000 miles. I thought this is supposed to be a 911, not a Golf. However it is still showing it wants another 6,000 miles to the first oil change and the tyres have plenty of tread left.

I have now completed 14,000 miles.

The car has been excellent, often retuning 34mpg or 400 miles on a tank.

It is comfortable and quite well specced, even for a car with no options. Excellent ventilation, good satellite sat nav. I even like my pov spec manual adjustment seats.

The lack of nannying makes it more fun to drive in my book. You can step the back out and get into all sorts of shenanigans very easily if you want to.
The gearbox is wonderful.

My draggy app indicates 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, which seems quick enough to me. I dont care about the sports chrono package. It sounds fantastic on the standard exhaust with square tips too. The standard tune engine is very eager indeed. I dont see why anyone would want to mess around with it.

It is all the daily car I could ever want. If I had purchased an R8 or an Aston, I would probably be need something else as a daily as well, as they would feel a bit too much. I am very pleased the 911 doesn't have a larger engine.

So I fully intend to pass 100,000 miles in this one, it feels like it will surpass that target easily, and probably still be worth a few quid even then too in 5 years time.

So I say-if you want one, get one.

Still 80k+ I'd imagine? I could and as much as I really want to, I won't. frown
