Funny I was just rereading the comments from that article last year, we had a very nice conversation in that thread. I miss having many of those folks on this site, j
Have they boycotted the site then or something?

Trouble with the Civi no matter how good it is .... It's just a styling mess. Almost like the designers tried to hard and put every hot hatchback styling cue into one package. Just ugly...

I cant comment on these two but its a great time to be buying a hot hatch right now. I did a bit of window shopping yesterday whilst the wife and daughters were in Ikea. Sat in the i30N Fastback and then had a good poke around the new ST at the Ford dealer. My surprise verdict based purely on looking at and sitting in the cars and considering the package, the i30N would be the one for me out of those two. Obviously a test drive might change that, but Hyundai have built a very appealing car with the i30N. Anyway, I need to go and have a look at the Megane too. Sorry, but I just cant see myself driving around in that be-spoilered Civic, no matter how good it is. I just prefer a more understated car these days.

I got my Type R in Dec 2017 and I love it to bits. I hear what everyone says about the lack of configurability of driving modes but for most of the time I’m happy in Sport mode and that suits me just fine. The wheels are ridiculously easy to kerb but a handy supply of black nail varnish addresses most of those. I’ve had French cars before and that would put me off the Renault. I loved the FK8 from the first day I saw it and I still do. The fact I’ve racked up nigh on 20,000 miles in less than 2 years is testament to its drivability. For a big car it is so much more agile than it looks. The looks are definitely a marmite thing but I’m definitely on the love it side of the equation. Definitely a Honda concert!

I understamd that the FK8 divides opinion on looks but on the right road in R mode the thing is just incredible

Still winning group tests after all this time is a massive achievement, they pulled off something special with this car, such a brilliant all rounder

I commuted all week in mine (75mile round trip) in comfort mode averaging an indicated 38mpg and it was a joy, today heading home I took the long route and hit some nice roads in R and had a lot of fun

It changes so much through the 3 modes

A truly stunning car and I love the fact that whatever new hot hatch is out, it’s instantly pitted against the Civic, which is nearly 3 years old and hasn’t been updated.

The looks situation is subjective and the majority of PH don’t like its looks but on a daily basis, to the general public, I receive nothing but compliments. What colours yours?

....I don’t doubt the Megane either, probably a very good car but let down by the fact that it wasn’t complete from the first day it rolled out of the factory.
Always the way with RenaultSport though, they've done this all along really.

They build a good car but after a few iterations they make a great car.

Clio 182 to Clio 182 Cup to Clio 182 Trophy. Megane 225 to Megane R26 to Megane R26.R.

I'm not entirely surprised that the latest RS Megane has taken a few iterations to be it's best.

Yet, the Trophy only adds 20ps compared to the original 280 on Cup chassis. The other upgrades for me are downgrades : wheels are too big compared to the 280 18s and the discs will be expensive to replace and will probably promote pad wear compared to the plain discs of the 280.

As for the extra noise, I find it's a negative both on the road and track.

I think they got it right out of the box with the 280 Cup.
