First hearing of 'Paperback Writer' in a Morris Minor.
First hearing of 'Abbey Road' in an MGB in Seattle in the rain. The whole album - no ads.

Give directions by only mentioning petrol stations and pubs.

Always recounting life changing events or occasions by the car at the time.

“Oh, you can’t remember to take the bins out, but you can remember the neighbours car specification from 25 years ago (as one just drives past)”

I know far more about the neighbours' cars than their names

Two doors down opposite lives "that guy with the Mk2 Focus estate of which the front subframe mounting prescribed area was recently found to be corroded but not considered excessive"

Proper belly laugh at that.

I remember when I went on trips away to other cities with friends based on who was driving and which car we were in. "Nah it can't have been 2011, you were in the Focus by then."

I remember people by the cars they had. I was buying a mobile the other day and the woman serving me said she knew me from somewhere. Anyway we worked it out that it must have been 20 years since we’d last met. I couldn’t remember her or her name but it suddenly clicked - ‘oh yeah, your dad had that Metro 6r4 and sold it for an Anglia hot rod. What does he have now?’

In another 20 years I’ll bump into her and tell her that her dad had a Mazda 6 in 2019!

I told her that I bet he wished he’d kept the 6r4. She looked at me strangely!

Not quite the same thing but I am guilty of taking longer routes or making unnecessary lane changes to see if a car in the distance is a friend or family member!

I remember lots of car events going back to childhood...the first time I was ever in an exotic car.

Was quite poor, but some Iranian medical students had rented a party house down the street and one of them had a brand new Facel Vega HK500.

I was speechless, awestruck when I saw the car and stood staring at it. The owner said.."want to go for a little drive?. I hopped in, recall the rumbling V8, the 45rpm record player, the sheer luxury of the car.
I had always been interested in cars since my first Dinky toy, and it has never left me.

When in an 'interesting' car and spotting another 'interesting' car, go to extraordinarily unnecessary lengths to form some sort of convoy of respect.

Commuting home up the M1 yesterday in the Ute I came across a 90s MR2 and thus obviously had to allow him out when indicating, and follow along at a slightly lower speed than I would have been doing (got to maximise that average speed section hehe) for a while, just because...

It's great to see anyone driving any sort of interesting car amongst the sea of grey German saloons smile

Every set of holiday photos we have involves either the hire car or my car that we've used to get there.

Definitely link memories to cars to date them for me and family members

Be deeply impressed that the animated cars in the YouTube series you are watching with your 18 month old are based on real cars:

An E65 7 Series, Prius and I think a Proton Savvy.

And be impressed that they all are rubbish enough to play the intended part

Why does the name of that car ring a bell? I have feeling this could be one of my favourite matchbox cars... any pics?

Have many memories connected to cars (much like music) and often base conversations around the chariots of the time. But then I would 'drift' my Mum's trolley around Bejams making RAC Rally noises, so it's hardly surprising.

I must show this thread to my wife to prove that it’s not just me.

I can identify with so much of this, the OCD about film cars being the wrong year, remembering everybody’s cars and when they had them and probably most of all, realising who she is talking about once the car is mentioned.
I have always been obsessed with cars, apparently as a 4 year old I could name every car I saw.
Does anyone else play the ‘guess what’s under the cover’ game with cars parked on random driveways?
Now, if only I could find a practical use for my affliction.

I was delivering something to a house several years ago and there was a car covered up in the corner of the large garage. I said to the guy working at the house "An E Type Jag, very nice" and he looked at me as though I had just told him the secret to eternal life. "But....*he looks at car cover, looks back at me, looks at cover again* how did you know?!

To some people, they really are just transport I guess. To me (and everyone on here I would wager) it was as obvious as asking me to guess what the gift was inside bottle-shaped wrapping paper.

I'm useless at the names of people at work, but I know what they drive.

As part of my job, I sometimes take photos of roads to do reports etc and will always try to get my car in at least a couple of them.

I hate films where the car / bike noise is wrong for the actual vehicle on the screen or where the gear change noises/movement doesn't match

I have been known to spend as much time wandering around the car/bike park of a show as I do looking at the actual vehicles on show.

I also annoy SWMBO by going in the wrong direction/long way round any given car park if I have spotted something interesting.
Strangely though I cannot get in the least bit excited by electric vehicles. To me they are white goods to get about in. They just don’t have the character that draws us to normal cars.
