You may need to stop at the brow of the hill, yes. You don't know what is over the brow.
Sorry, still can’t envision such a thing. Forgetting locals, when would you ever drive so slowly on a national speed limit road to allow you to brake safely (could be cars behind you) enough and come to a stop on a main road at the brow of a hillconfused. I’ve been driving over forty years and this has never ever crossed my mind.

So there is nothing wrong with passing on this on experience.

If you were on a motorbike would you go over a blind brow at speed not knowing whether there was a stationary truck on the other side?

"Mind Driving" is an interesting read.
Will check it out.

Agreed with training. I think the SAC is a farce, not the idea, but the cynical way it’s used to rip everyone off.

I’d say most new drivers are woefully ill equipped once they’ve passed the test. Which, just plays into the hands of those scum bag insurers.

Happened to me, in deepest Kent, about 4 years ago. Over the hump-backed bridge, Merc coming the other way. It was too narrow to avoid each offside wheel arch scraping, despite a reasonably slow speed, and emergency stop. We both just shrugged it off. I am more cautious since.
(Un?)luckily for me it was my wife’s car. Repairs done in a batch repair job a few years later.

I can think of a number of humpback bridges on NSL roads in the Cotswolds where I would be going very slowly as I approach - slow enough to stop before the hump - so the same would apply for the brow of a hill - no visibility = slow

One of the signs of a good driver is the dynamic range of their speed

And, if you'd never thought about it before, you learned something from the course.
