I like these.

Another car I forgot about that’s not too expensive but still cool when buying my other half a cheap run about.

I've just checked the weights....and a twingo 133 comes back as 1050kg, where as the first clio 182's come in at 1090kg.....makes the Twingo seem a bit heavy really for its size.

If i wanted a small cheap fast supermini I'd be looking at a Mitsubishi Colt CZT or Ralliart. 1045 kg, and a 150bhp turbo lump that can be taken to 200 and more fairly easily.
Not really. They’re about the same size and the Twingo is a little bit lighter, as you’ve highlighted. Seems about right, if actually pretty decent tbf. The Twingo is based on the 182 chassis anyway, so it’s actually pretty much the same car underneath.

The Colts are a good contender and are even rarer than the Twingo, but apparently some parts can also be quite expensive and hard to get hold of. Also, they’re apparently nowhere near as fun or as engaging to drive. Quicker in a straight line and much easier to tune, but pretty forgettable in every other area.

Having driven neither my preference would always go to the car which is more fun rather than the fastest. I'm suprised they are based on the same chassis.....The twingo looks a class smaller to me. like a lupo rather than a Polo. I did own a 182 myself for a short while....much less impressed than i thought i would be.....until i took it to Scotland via the coldstream road.

The 33% over standard horsepower on standard internals another poster mentioned wouldnt worry me though. I've had plenty of cars on standard internals running more than 33% over the factory output. Lots of engines out there can run double or more the standard factory output with a good map.

So after seeing this listed as last week's shed and being on the lookout to get a cheap but fun 2nd car, I went to see Guy last Saturday and after a bit of haggling bought it for the princely sum of £1k.

This car is a regular RS Twingo 133 with the cup pack, and not the stripped back cup version mentioned in the article.

Good points:
Full service history. Looks like pretty much every invoice has been kept, including the original bill of sale, and car has been serviced every year.
Just had a new MOT.
New clutch fitted fairly recently, as well as new rear brakes, pads and springs.
Exhaust leak was also fixed.
Doesn't appear to be too many squeaks and rattles considering it's mileage (and the fact it's a cheap French car!).

Bad points:
Belts need replacing soon and it will also be due a service.
Aircon doesn't work
All 4 alloy wheels are curbed and in a sorry state.
Steering wheel is melting / peeling off (had this on both my previous Clios so no surprise here)
Little bit of bubbling in the paint under one of the headlights, but overall bodywork and interior is pretty good considering the mileage.

I've always had a soft spot for sporty Renaults, having owned a Clio 172 Cup and 182 Trophy previously, and hopefully this will make a fun, cheap runabout.

Yep, I thought they were under a tonne. SLightly surprising for the size. A ph 1 Clio 172 is lighter than this!

Well done. Sounds like a hell of a deal for £1k.

Always good to hear reports of what SotW cars are like in real life!

Nice one. It sounds like it was a steal at £1k.
Congratulations and erm.. good luck!

Good buy, I don't think you'll be disappointed in it.

Not a bad buy mate. If you ever need any interior parts let me know as I have a load from stripping the parts out of my rally car Inc a rear bench seat.
I would personally run it on smaller wheels also if the cup wheels need a refurb.

Thanks Avenger, I'll send you a PM soon as may need a few bits.
What's it been like as a rally car? Have you had to make a lot of changes?

TBH I've not found the ride too harsh with the cup setup, although I am used to cars with a fairly hard ride.

Its been slow work converting it to a rally car due to parts avalibility but that's half the fun lol. Engine work has been cams, manifold and exhaust, inside is just cage and safety equipment and lots of weight loss!
So now has 160ish bhp and a lot lighter.
There is a thread on the forum somewhere.
If you want anything let me know.

There isn't that much differences in the size of the Twingo and the Clio 2 (My brothers wife has a clio 2, i have a twingo). If anything you can see how much alike they are when there together.

Just for you, and the fact I have both manuals and haven't played on MS paint for awhile.
