Good one. Of course they look roughly similar in their overall shape and proportions, it's the same concept and layout.
Right. It's basically saying "How dare they design that two door coupe with two doors and a coupe shape..."There is a definite similarity between Ford and BMW there.
BMW will probably sell plenty. They’ll do well.
They do seem to have changed what they’re all about in the last decade though.
I keep saying it, but their whole range is now poor for anything I’d want to buy and own.
I’m desperately waiting for their i range to expand and offer something genuinely interesting and desirable.
This is a future Brave Pill c. 2027.
Warranty has run out, now under £8k and one of only 3 in the UK in this spec with this wheel/paint combo.
Good weekend toy to sit in the garage next to the VW No ID 3 (assuming there isn't a batrery leaking scandal before then).
The last hurrah of the German Power wars - again!

Just as a point of order the M5C is actually lighter than its rivals eg Merc E63S, Audi RS7 etc. Then you have the electric rivals all about 2300kg. I get that you may not like "big" cars but the M5C seems ok in its category.
TX.
Here in Sweden weighed registration weights for a regular Panamera Turbo are 200-300kg higher than the M5C... TX.

Erm Mercedes coupe looks nothing like this, Audi s5 looks nothing like this, Lexus looks nothing like this, shall I go on?Looks like the mustang, end of.
Sure...they look nothing like each other...
I love it. Very nice car. I do think it looks more Japanese in design which worries me a little as to where it's headed in general as I'm not really a fan of modern Japanese designs, they jut look cheap. I would rather it stayed true to the M6 sort of look, just developed a little more. Some of the new harder cut lines just look extraneous to me and a little too Lambo on a sedan which is more Japanese/Asian than Euro. Dare I say, they are now appealing to a different market? That's a whole other discussion.
In saying that - i'm actually a fan of the new bigger grilles on other models (the 8 series still being relatively smaller). I think in ten years time people are going to say - "oh i really like it now and it would look weird with out it". I just think it's a quite a radical change and that sort of thing takes time for people to adjust to on the whole.
Look at the Bangle era M6 now. It still looks reasonably fresh and has really grown on people, much more now than when it came out.
From my perspective, I would say in general that a modern design works when there is a nice mix of hard and soft lines. But the mix of these newest BMW lines is more biased towards the hard lines now, the calmness and harmony in the design has completely shifted. Personally speaking I don't like that so much but concede that I may feel differently about it in the future. I think the M6 Gran Coupe is probably the pinnacle. A nice mix of hard and soft, with the bias leaning more on the soft/sleek. The harder designs just have a more glitchy and twitchy character about them they are devoid of any sort of elegance or grace.

It's these silly slashes/vents/whatever that ruin the rear. The rest could do with de-cluttering, but it's ok.
Yeah there's a few areas like that which seem totally extraneous to me. To me that is pretentious and arguably childish design and seems it's appealing to a completely different person and/or forcing the existing customer base to change, which is risky. That becomes clear when you review the current backlash against the new design philosophy.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
