On the flip-side, it could be that the Ranger is designed for the real world of commercial vehicles in the rest of the world, rather than for folk who carry handguns to church and marry their sisters

Indeed the Amarok has replaced the long used G wagons, the Dutch special forces however use the Defenture.
Also in use by the Dutch and German military are Bushmasters and Fenneks.

if you look above in this thread, the dutch military developed the Defenture, which is a £350K vehicle; this pricing is not unusual in military vehicles...
