Travelling along the M4 tonight in filthy evening weather, a black focus was barely noticeable as no lights.

Took the time to get their attention and the lights came on. Discovered after I had passed it that the driver was incompetent and was driving with the main beam on.. Joy.

What good deeds have you done to have it rebound on you?

Someone waiting to join a road I was on from my left. No indicator and seemed to be going the same direction as me. Quick flash to let them out whereupon they came across my lane and sat waiting to turn to their right where a very busy lane of static traffic couldn't let them in. My lane is now clear in front and he just sits looking at me dumb before traffic finally moved and let him in. A simple indicator to the right would've let me crawl past knowing he can't go anywhere anyway..

3 weeks ago I was driving up the road where I live and a white van pulled out in front of me with one of the rear doors open, I could see a load of cleaning equipment in it so gave them a flash but no response. Rounding a corner I flashed again and beeped a couple of times and it signalled to pull over.. Wound the passenger window down to warn them....Dear god! The tirade of expletives that came out of these two ''ladies'' mouths was unbelievable...While they were coming up for air before part two i merely pointed out that a hoover was about to fall out, their faces dropped and couldn't have been more apologetic!

I admire that you still helped them. I'd have been sorely tempted to leave them ignorant of the issue.

Filled in a gap between my fence and the neighbour's fence. His wife mentioned it whilst the landscapers were paving my driveway. He then complains that I have attached the bit of fencing to his fence six months later. Total knobber.

Was filling up couple of weeks back and noticed a car leaving the pumps opposite still had the petrol cap on the roof, pointed it out to them and they gave me a dirty look in return and just drove off, assume it must have fallen off the first corner they went round.

Last year I flashed a car infront that didn't have any lights on a couple of times and they then feebly tried to brake check me, when at the next set of lights I told them they had no lights on and they just ignored me but could tell they were embarrassed.

It's amazing the number of cars you see who've turned the lights on one click, so have front driving lights only and no rear lights.

The situation is almost any Motorway. As I approach the on ramp the cars joining the motorway match my speed and seem intent on filtering straight into the side of my lorry. I move out into lane 2 to allow them to join whereupon they accelerate briskly up to 80 miles an hour and leave me stuck in the middle of the motorway wondering why I bothered

Puzzled by this as all the cars I have driven in the last 50 years have front and rear lights that come on together. Or have I misunderstood?

driving to work one morning I noticed a large van with the side door open so gave a little flash. A while later I pulled up along side him on a traffic island, beeped the horn and he wound his window down - hey mate did you know your side door was open!! - he starts laughing - its a graphic mate supposed to look open he said.

Was very realistic how was I to know :-)

modern cars light up the dash and front running lights , dimwits think the headlights are on because the dash is lit up

You've misunderstood. Its a point of DRL fitted cars and the driving forgetting/not bothering to use proper dipped beam. You get no rear lights on DRLs on.

You do in a Fiat 124 Spider, and the number plate lights too!

All the time, or they match your speed and stay along side usually lurking around the blind spot.
I did a speed awareness course a few years ago and when asked what the speed limit was on a motorway slip not far off half said 30mph, unbelievable.

Yes I can see that but on the cars I've owned that have DRL the lights come-on automatically and do not need turning one click ?

I followed someone recently who I almost kept running into the back of, took me half a mile to realise they had no brake lights, managed to get alongside them at a roundabout, wound my window down signalled for them to do the same, they duly did and then called me a "Bullstting " when I told them! Really wish I hadn't bothered after that.

Commuting home from work, I spotted a hazard flashing mum-taxi with a pancake-flat tyre at the side of one of the busy roads I travel. It was quite a smart MPV with a gaggle of young kids on board and a sole mummy with phone to ear. Being an upstanding fellow and knowing I had a footpump in my car, I stopped to offer any assistance. I had a young family of my own back then and could envisage how stressful it must have been for her to be stuck in a dangerous spot with nowhere to go, young kids on board and clearly no idea of what to do next....
The lady was most grateful for the help and I suggested I inflated the tyre as best we could using my foot pump so we could limp to the nearest petrol station a mile further on and go from there.....
The first part of the plan worked well and I soon had the tyre inflated enough to safely drive on, although you could hear the air slowly escaping. The second part worked well too and she was soon out of harm's way, off the road and relieved to be tucked into a quiet corner of the petrol station forecourt. The third part of the plan was to gallantly swap the offending tyre for the spare, a familiar task for me but unfamiliar ground for the damsel in distress.

This is where it began to go wrong.

Turned out the MPV didn't have a spare as the space normally attributed had been sacrificed for seats... all that was available was a tin of 'tyre goop' that needed to be attached to the supplied air compressor and all pumped into the tyre in the event of a flat. This all seemed straightforward enough and I was soon well into the procedure, whereupon the air line blew off the valve connector (it had previously been slammed in the boot by the looks of it) and ejaculated Satan's load of foul smelling tyre sputum in my face! As a spluttered to my feet and wrestled the infernal device to a stop I looked down to see that the ejaculant on my face was the least of my problems..... The horror on our damsels's face was palpable as she apologetically offered wet wipes my way and I began to de-smeg myself. I was covered from head to toe, all my clothes, coat, shoes, the lot... and this stuff was sticky....
The net result was it wouldn't come off any of my clothes and they were all ruined, including my rather expensive coat! I also had the pleasure of enduring the remaining 45 minutes of my commute in a glue-y, sticky and stinking mess.... On the upside, I did manage to effect a good enough repair to see the lady back on her way - so good deed was completed AND i now had a rather nice coat for dog-walking and gardening!

I had to laugh.....

Don'r know what you're thinking of but that's not feasible.

What does happen on many cars is they've got off/auto/sidelights/headlights - so people click two clicks from Off and think they've put the headlights on.

Off is disappearing from new cars now.

I'll note that as another reason not buy a modern car.
