The cheaper 50k version doesn’t hold the record at the Nurburgring or have that status and would lap slower. That makes the much cheaper Type R with probably a similar lap time look like great value.
Not sure how important "status" is but yes the Civic is a brilliant budget alternative indeed. Quite a lot slower considering its front end can't even match a boggo 280 Cup's. https://youtu.be/mAcLedCLYkQAs for £51k vs £72k lap time, tricky to say. The brakes at the Ring will add nothing but the overall gain in unsprung might be worth a couple of seconds but not sure either, who knows.

I wouldn’t put too much faith in a Fifth Gear bit of entertainment for the masses. They always battle it out to the last corner. As for £51k vs £72k lap time, tricky to say. This is much more representative of the 280 cup’s abilities compared to the Type R (and Hyundai) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQ9mFuqdOZ0

I would expect the 40hp deficit to make quite a difference indeed. This is much more representative of the 280 cup’s abilities compared to the Type R (and Hyundai) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQ9mFuqdOZ0
The German version of the same mag has the Honda and the (non R) Trophy on a par despite the 20hp deficit.

Tempting to extrapolate the gap between a £51k Meg R and CTR as significant, based on the the R having twice the front neg camber as a Trophy or a Cup and a healthy weight advantage. Which doesn't take anything away from the Honda's brilliant value for money actually.

I have been informed there are no cars left without the carbon wheels.
You may have misinterpreted that information There are cars at dealers without CF wheels, just none available from central resource. So if you want a non CF wheel car you’ll need to get from a dealer who has one.

AutoTrader has zero dealers showing cars without wheels, would you care to highlight which dealer has unsold stock without the carbon wheels? I’m on holiday this week so unfortunately I can’t.
When I looked last week I think there were 4 without CF wheels parked at dealers!
Ah ok, seems strange that I can't find the adverts. When I looked last week I think there were 4 without CF wheels parked at dealers!
I was offered a T-R with carbon wheels for £47k last week... I just don't want the wheels..

I think the wheels will be worth money in years to come. The individual wheels from Renault are something like 4.5k each (I think)

Sounds too cheap! Would be interested to see how the dealer got to that number!!

I think they'll be worth money in future if kept unused. I struggle to see a significant return for a car with used wheels in years to come versus one without, if they are gravel rashed/ kerbed.
The wheels I found for £1.5k each, no tyres of course.
Regardless of opinion, the wheels put the car out my budget.
£41k megane with warranty or 2016 Golf CS with low milage and a few pennies saved?
