My post is true though. Vauxhalls are st. Always have been and probably always will be.
Name me a Vauxhall you'd want to buy that hasn't had help from another company.
Come on.

The image of Vauxhall has faded like many middle of the road, bread and butter cars but the Cavalier was always a good car compared to the Cortinas and the Astra was a better car than most of the Escorts. Indeed the Viva had better handling than most Ford's. The amalgamation of Opel and Vauxhall designs was inevitable. It was just unfortunate that Ford had a Teflon quality that let them survive in a shrinking market, despite some quite dire cars clinging to leaf springs.
Like many companies, Vauxhall used outside help like Ford did with Lotus and Cosworth, without whom the Ford line-up would also have been dull.
The Insignia Grand Sport came of age in its current iteration and is held up as best buy in its class. The main problem Vauxhall have had, IMHO, is the names. Grandland FFS... Adam when it's not an Opel...

The worst cars ever built, yes I have owned several, and they cost me dearly, utterly ste cars that should all be burned.
So if you owned "several" why did you buy the others when the previous ones were so "ste?"Very strange.
Once upon a time I owned an Astra for three months, since then I've never had the inclination to ever own another Vauxhall.
I can understand why people like them though it must be the same for those who like Fords...funny old world.
Saw this at a car show a while back...very nice.

Vauxhall have in recent years recovered themselves from a very serious mire of making utterly crap cars (the Vectra C and Astra H era). Their current range has some very good models in it.
I even surprised myself recently by breaking away from Honda to buy an Astra GTC SRi 2.0 CDTi as my daily runaround. I think it's a great car, that ticks all the boxes I wanted it to tick. It's reasonably quick for a diesel too, and a really good steer with the HiPer Strut suspension. I will probably do a detailed RR thread on it sometime.

If I had to own three Vauxhalls I would genuinely try to burn my own eyes out with a gas lighter.
Would you though or would you actually see it for what it’s likely to be - an unpretentious perfectly means of transport. These days I’d feel less embarrassed driving a Vauxhall than many German cars. For me
Manta GTE
Cavalier SRi 130
Monaro (supercharged obviously)

If so, a spoilt brat that's 'entitled '.

Right, thanks. That's a Chevette that wasn't really supposed to be a Vauxhall but was and a Nova. I'm sold.. There's several Peugeots, RenaultSports and Fords I'd already be through before I even looked at a Nova.
That "Nova" as you say was certainly good enough for some proper rally drivers - go see which car McRae started rallying in.Oh and if you want to see how a fwd car should be driven take a look at Dave Metcalfe on youtube

Interesting to see the vast field of cars entered and also how he managed to split the pack punching above his weight!

Apart from possibly the door skins i'm not sure you could really call that a Vauxhall any more.If we stick to road cars then I'd have:
Tickford Calibra with the "Red Top" (Before you go googling this, it had special leather bits and some badges)
Manta GTE
That new Grandland Hybrid thing that's meant to have several hundred BHP and several hundred MPG just for something big and comfy to potter about in.
Nice to see my beloved Calibra getting some love on this thread (between the people murdering themselves). Perhaps I should start a thread for it.

Mk2 Astra GTE
Insignia Grand Sport
Astra GTC VXR
I’d also happily own other Vauxhall too. I always liked the Calibra when I was a kid. I had the newest Astra Elite 1.4 Turbo from new in March ‘17 until March this year which was great value and drove really nicely, I’d happily have the 1.6 200bhp version as a daily driver, or the 1.6 Bi-Turbo diesel.
Not long ago I replaced my Golf R with a 12 plate diesel Astra. Obviously it’s dull as dishwater but it was very cheap, reasonably frugal and I don’t mind piling 25k miles a year on it and abandoning it anywhere, having the dog in the back, using it as a small van for tip runs etc! Truth be told I’d probably prefer the equivalent Focus but couldn’t find a good one for my budget close by.
Vauxhalls do the job most of the time, parts are cheap, it gets you where you need to go, I don’t quite understand the level of hate for them.
