Re x350 purchase, I recommend taking a OBD2 code reader with you. The more expensive ones will return body and chassis codes, a basic one will give you engine codes.

Scan, clear, drive, scan - or something like that. Precisely what I forgot to do when I bought mine, naturally, but got away with it.
I have one already but I'd rather buy an up to date one that may pick up more information.

Anyone have any recommendations?
i bought the icarsoft LR 2.0 - I’ve not tried the generic model which maybe a better buy.

The older version is the i930

Not heard from the dealer as he said he would at around 4pm irked

Again, looking online it appears it didn't even get tested today. I can only assume they're trying to sort the mirror before MOT. I'll ping him a message tomorrow mid-morning asking if it'll be ready for Saturday. Bit frustrating to say the least FFS.

Good lord E65Ross. You're not having much luck! Fingers crossed it's all resolved to your satisfaction shortly (including the mirror).

Indeed. You’re not having much luck Ross.

This thread is moving quickly these last few days! I seem to recall pics of the 7 were requested? I dump all sorts of (odd) stuff here so I can post it:

https://imgur.com/user/PrinnyPH

Should hopefully work OK, and you get to see the 6/7/SL and anything else I see on my travels.

Imagine what the dealer is going to be like if you have a problem (yes I know it’s a Lexus), if he’s not answering when you want to give him money, what’s the opposite scenario going to be like?! I think the best solution is to PM BmthNick & arrange a mutually convenient purchasing time? wink

Don’t think you’re too far away from each other either.

No, I'm not having much luck! I'll see what he says when I message or call him tomorrow mid-morning. I do want the car because of the very good history, and the price is pretty good for a sub 100k miles car. I'm not sure I fancy one with 130+k on it, although if this thing falls through I may be sending you a PM Nick!

You're being far too polite with this guy.
I'll be completely honest, if they haven't put it through its mot yet, I'd want to know exactly why.
There's not a single reason for a dealer trying to sell a car not to get rid ASAP apart from trying to do some last minute fixes that you aren't aware of.

I'd be looking else where by now.

I checked out one at a garage a couple of weeks back, couple of issues were apparent. My favourite was the pan roof cover which had become unstuck from the runners. I pushed the open button and the fabric fell over my face like a theatre curtain- fortunately stationary at the time...

From what I gather it is (or at least should be) with the garage who is doing the MOT. The garage are independent to the dealer, so to a certain extent he's at their mercy. The only thing I can fathom is that they are trying to sort out the mirror before putting it through the MOT, and that is taking some time or waiting for new parts. But yes, it isn't exactly good and I shan't be happy if it isn't ready for a Saturday collection.

I must've missed it but what's the issue with the mirror?
In my 13 years of driving, I've never had to wait more than 24 hours to get an mot.

All of that might well be true, but a good dealer (or any walk of life to be fair) knows that communication is key. When I bought the 7, pulling into the yard after the test drive, there came the bmw ‘bing of doom’. It turned out to be the clockspring. The dealer knew I wanted the car, and rang me every 2-3 days with an update on progress (it went to the local main dealer, sat there while they analysed, then ordered parts, then fitted). That took near 4 weeks, Taj swallowed the cost of it in the sale (I’d expect him to! & near £800) but most importantly, he kept me informed every step of the way, and was even willing to chip the price a bit for the delay (we came to a mutual agreement).

I don’t know your dealer from Adam, but he’s obviously not the best communicator. Only you can decide how much this annoys you in terms of walking away, or not. I personally would be getting to the walking stage. He should be chasing you, not the other way around.

There are sufficient LS out there to the point that you can find another, and while we’ve been egging you on a bit during the thread, you’ve gone from a 90% ‘not yet’ to a buy in the space of a week, mid-month, without knowing whether you’d get the bonus from work yet.
I’m not trying to preach or be holier than thou, your choice & money. I’d be going for a good look over the car & another test drive of it before handing over your hard-earned.

The passenger side mirror doesn't fold in when you lock the car, like the drivers' side does. The glass of the mirror can be adjusted (so in reality it's absolutely fine as a mirror) but the automatic folding doesn't work. I am not sure whether it's a small electrical glitch, or whether the motor has packed up or what. I suspect (hope) this is what's causing the delay. It's not a deal breaker in reality but if I can get it sorted then why not. I will message him first thing tomorrow morning asking whether it'd be ready for collection Saturday morning or even potentially tomorrow night if he doesn't mind.

Au nauturelle, however the two on AT are 9 & 10k respectively, and they seem to move, which is annoying for what couldn't be given away for £3k not all that long ago.

ASK ME HOW I KNOW!!!?

The way I see it, if there communication is poor before they even have your money, imagine how bad it'll be after.

Have you got a link to the car?

I'll give the car another drive but it felt very good on the first test I did.

Fortunately, this week has been very (very!) busy at work so I should hit my bonus which will be nice.

RE him not being the best communicator, that shouldn't detract from the fact it seems to be a good car (mirror aside). I shouldn't need to contact him after a sale if all is well anyway. But yes, it's not exactly great customer service is it. I do not think the delay in an MOT is because of a failure, it is not even showing on the .gov website as having even been put through an MOT today, whether it pass or fail.....and most places I know do the test, then fix failures and give it a pass. So I just think it hasn't even had a test, which is very irritating when it was initially "Tuesday or Wednesday"....
