I liked the one Krikkit shared - no link though? For my money not having the ancient touchscreen is a plus too.

My NASP XJ8 is very responsive and brisk compared to the old steel bodied XJ8, and good fun to fling around. Another 100bhp and a load more torque could only make it better. I already have six points though....

Good video here with most bases covered, there's a good explanation of why fresh fluid in a worn gearbox can be problematic.

I've ordered a gearbox dipstick for my 2003 W163 ML270 CDI to give it a check. Shall we have a sweepstake on what I'll find? hehe

Gearbox feels good. 134k miles. Never towed anything until spring 2019. May have had a fluid change in the past but I don't really know

ETA: New information. The cap on the dipstick tube should have a red locking pin, apparently. Can anyone confirm? It does not have that now, so chances are the fluid has been changed or at least inspected.

It has been serviced yearly since new (first by Mercedes dealership, then by specialist) but I have no receipts from previous ownership or knowledge of what has been done. It was owned by a family member (from new) before me so I know this to be true, but he has no idea what was done at the services and kept no records

My 97 SL with a 722.6 gearbox had never had an ATF change when I bought it just shy of 100k miles - I have full history - and there was a black locking clip (which apparently denotes it is a factory fit item) in the tube cap. The new tube cap clip is red (that said, it is possible to remove the clip in a way that allows it to be refitted). The ATF came out like Bisto gravy, and while it performed well prior to box and TC being drained it was still possible to discern a marked change in smoothness post new-ATF.

All bases covered (*) for under half thread and plenty to keep you busy of a winter's eve.

From the reading I've done, I think I'll base it on smell. If it smells burnt, I'll leave it and hope for the best. If it's not, I'll change it

That’s the ‘problem’ with the XJR. As the supercharger kicks in at around 2500, it takes very little throttle to reach 50, 70+. It’s also a steady surge of torque (400 ft lbs), so the speed increase is less noticeable.

Prices on X350's are all over the place is that really worth 5k, lovely colour though.

I'm still thinking I stole my XJ6 at £1700.

In terms of tyres are the Cross Climates ok? I just had a Maxxis Sport separate at the shoulder, pressure always been pretty good and only done 14k miles.

On the winter tyres thread (sorry I can't find the bookmark with the crappy mobile site) they get good reviews and Black Circles have a black friday promo as someone mention earlier.

On the topic of gearbox oil, mine was done about 30,000 miles ago whilst the transmission was dropped in order to change the leaking crankshaft oil seal. I don't know if it was a change or a flush though, I'll look that up.

For some reason I've always fancied a V6 Galaxy or Sharan.
Possibly not this one that Guna is selling though.
But with lines like "As Soon AS Dream!!! Hello , Drive!!!," maybe I could turn a blind eye to the fact it's a Cat C.....

Another vote for cross climate here, have fitted them to a couple.of the family's vehicles. Can also recommend the Bridgestone equivalent too, A005 iirc.

This 9-5 Aero that we've had before has dropped nearly a grand to be within thread. Tasty.
