L322 decided it doesn’t like me having other barges. Day after that e65 arrived I went out and the car had decided to have a leak from the front bag. £70 for a cheap replacement but the time/effort of doing it
Blame the E65. They're cursed I tell you....Cursed! Hope you get it sorted without too much agro (both cars!)Cheap things if your able to fit yourself.
Chaps, let's start with the negatives:
- One mildly rusty rear arch;
- Some interior buttons don't illuminate;
- 257k miles ish;
- Will need a service at some point;
- Brake discs need replacing (pads apparently okay);
- Not pristine paintwork, but pretty good;
- Will need advance Ministry of Interior approval;
- Track rod ends seized (replacements apparently £80ish;
- I have nowhere to put a 4l V8 saloon;
- Will need timing chain/belt in another 5k ish miles.
The positives:
- One owner for several years, and generally looked after;
- Two sets of DHP rims, one set recently refurbed, one set with newish tyres (may be the same set);
- Decent, but not pristine condition;
- The asking price.
It's the LS400 I posted a couple of pages back - mine for a good price if I want it, otherwise going on ebay imminently to make way for a new car.
I'm very tempted...

Apart from the missing cylinders can anyone suggest reasons I should not look at a 2006 520d SE for c£3k?
It's being offered by someone in work who bought it at 6 years old from his BIL who ran it as a company car. Under 80,000 miles and has a full service history.
Not a typical thread thing but it would be a nice step up for my commute if there's nothing horrific that can fail.

When you say "will need a service at some point"....well, that goes for any car. Are we talking 5k miles, about now, or the service is overdue? If the latter, coupled with the rusty arch and the track rod ends needing doing I'm not sure if that fits with "owner for several years and generally looked after"?- One mildly rusty rear arch;

Depends on the price and if it is otherwise decent. If you can get the cambelt and service plus the track rod ends done and still pay less than about £1300 or so, seems good. But I gather you can pick an otherwise decent example up occasionally for around £2k with half of the mileage?

That needs to be £1,000 and you be handy with a spanner then, still tempted? If so go for it!-

Thanks for the comments, gentlemen. I should clarify that the 'mildly rusty rear arch' is, perhaps, and r129sl-level statement: there are a couple of minor bubbles, and a tiny bit of brown. It might even be a sand-back-touch-in job. Jim
As for price.... 0.1% of thread min. Hence the temptation.
What would a cam belt replacement cost on one of these monsters?

£1? Are you for real. Buy it FFS. What have you to lose? Smoke about in it and put it up for sale. It'll cost you a little in tax and insurance but you'll easily make that back soon enough come sale time. Or just drive it until I goes pop without even servicing it and then scrap it for £200!
