Only in this immeasurably small corner of the internet would anyone describe a V12 Jag as a “safe buy”. (!)
I'm going to bite. Ignoring the rather obvious riposte that the only true proper engine for a chap has 12 cylinders, my own experience with an XJS, the R no less, was not one of financial misery at all. Granted, the fellow threadist that bought it from me sold it once he identified some problems with rust of which I was blissfully unaware, but the maintenance and running costs were very reasonable and nothing compared to the laughter that the surge of acceleration caused. As those that have met me, or who have ever read my car tales, can attest, I am far from technically competent as a DIY-er and have to pay someone that isn't an idiot (i.e. unlike me)to do all but the most basic jobs, but even I wasn't scared by the thing. I'd certainly have another, and that could have been a contender if I was looking now.
I passed a gravel drive today that had a new black E65 AMG estate with all the tacky bling. I’ve no doubt it’s a brute of a motor (and a future thread car hopefully!).
Beside it was a no bling S211 E500, also in black. It looked like it had just been polished and was very classy (I’m biased though). Probably owned from new.
Why do they have to put so much kak on new cars?

I think the Japanese are not really known for their fineries..... They are well renowned for their electronics, and their car build quality. Having a clock like the Merc wouldn't be very Japanese, in my opinion.
The Merc clock does look nice though.
Lexus have been fitting analogue clocks in their cars for years. I still prefer the old digital clock in the LS400 though. The Merc clock does look nice though.

Right so we have an LS400 in grey over grey, with clear indicators and stupid chav plates, cracked leather, no floor mats, tape over a leak, a couple of dodgy tyres, no mention of service history and it's got 6 days to run. If it was £500 great, but since it won't be I have no idea what's so special about it.
I'd put good money on it being a shed. Lexus fever has gone too far we need some sense in this thread again.
Brutal! I thought it looked smart.I'd put good money on it being a shed. Lexus fever has gone too far we need some sense in this thread again.

Just popped in here to post that. A good episode about a future thread candidate. Probably not that far in the future.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipjdtxD9Wco
The clock in my DB9 is pretty nice but still has to be set by poking a biro into some small holes on the dash......

The images are not great, but it could be a charming car: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-280-SE-Auto-MO...YMAAOSwNHZd88Z4
Slightly overexposed, but some good carpet striping on this 300SE, nice velour too:

Seems pricey bearing in mind some of the car is missing.

PH sticker. Why not mention in here?
I know you guys (us / we / bargistas) exist. It's my car. I've had it a few years, but alas, I am moving about too much now (military, hence air-field / workshop photos).
An estate is what I need, and if it was an estate, or even had fold down rear seats, I'd have probably kept it.
Still, lovely motor, and aside from the air conditioning compressor seizing, it's not once let me down, inclusive of several trips to Europe in consummate luxury.
On a run, I can even get >30mpg! Around towns, not so much... Luckily, I have no need to comute, as I live at work, so only long journeys.
Genuinely, I can't think of many cars which I've been in that can hold a candle to the big LS for comfort and NVH isolation.

Someone got a fairly nice Christmas bargain then. I prefer the look of this model over anything they did since. Got it just right IMO. Hope the sale is hassle free. It's my car. I've had it a few years, but alas, I am moving about too much now (military, hence air-field / workshop photos).

It and another sheddy one were discussed a while ago, the view being it would cost a fortune to get it right, so it's probably one to drive and enjoy and attempt to keep running until it's a parts donor.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-K-MERCEDES-E-CLASS...

Unfortunately not...The seller emailed me saying "didn't mean to buy it, cancel the bid".
I just want to sell it!
