Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 15]

Gearbox light glowing on an XC90 T6, perambulation to higher ground? £1800 seems cheap. Or is it?

Blimey, glad you're OK!
I will view the car tomorrow but I'm 99% certain I won't buy. I would be stretching my finances more than I'd like for starters. As you know I've been torn between an LS460, W221 S Class or C216 CL500..... By at least viewing an LS460 I can see whether it's something I'd consider. The fact that it's up the road from me is handy..... If I save up and then I can't find one for 200+ miles away.... It could mean a long trip only to find it's not a car that I particularly want. So don't expect forecourt shots
E65Ross - please go and drive it and report back so all the rest of us hovering over LS4x0's can drink it in. That one has rear seat entertainment (SE spec) but the smaller East Berlin wheels, which is an unusual, combo. The 5 spoke ones look better IMO. Regardless, good to see Michelins.I will view the car tomorrow but I'm 99% certain I won't buy. I would be stretching my finances more than I'd like for starters. What I cannot fathom out, to the point that my bottle of Old Crafty Hen experience has been slightly spoiled, is why when you are armed with a car that has 18 buttons on the rear armrest you wouldn't dedicate at least 39 of the 40 available photos to this feature. Or even one. FFS!
Titty Ho is still a funnier garage name.
Seriously - drive it and report back. Hope you enjoy it.
I've been keeping an eye on the LS460 as a ballache free barge once my X350 goes. I really, really enjoy the completely unecessary way they have set up the car so you can fling the X350 around like a big hot hatch though, and I suspect this is something the Lexus would not do as well.

My only issue is it's silver....
I guess it's a buyers market with these cars. I can't imagine the market for a V8 petrol barge is too high right now, so wonder how much I could potentially haggle.
It says it has had a cam belt change......handy, but it’s actually fitted with a chain so worth being picky with the paperworkMy only issue is it's silver....

Will the forecourt shot be posted today, or tomorrow?
I am going to view it tomorrow. It's up for £6250. In reality I MIGHT be able to stretch to it but in reality I'd rather not just yet if I'm honest.Do the right thing and get it bought.
Edit: Just seen it's silver with beige. Swerve that, people might think you're American.

Here's a bit of info about the estate version
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/news/a289...
The only way I may consider it today would be if they would do mine in part ex and accept a fairly low ball offer of something like £4250. My insurance valued mine at around £1500 so if I says part ex for £1250 that'd mean paying effectively £5500 for it..... Which might seem plausible.
If they would do that, if it's a good example and if I like the way it drives I may well buy it. But that's a lot of ifs and buts!

Thought I'd post my recently acquired barge! It's a 2005 3.6 XJ8. I purchased it from my friend who'd owned it since December last year. It was originally a shady Facebook Marketplace purchase, listed up in Norfolk with no V5 and no MOT. Apparently the previous owner had died and the car had sat around for a while at a garage. My friend applied for the V5 and it arrived fairly quickly, turns out it had just the 1 previous owner. It had around 204000 miles at purchase, and now has 212500. Despite the mileage though, it runs very nicely and genuinely doesn't feel like it's done anywhere near that many miles. It's worn the miles very well, the only real obvious sign of wear in the interior is the steering wheel; it's otherwise devoid of knocks and rattles and it's a very relaxing place to cover miles.
My friend and I did a 3200 mile road trip in it in June. The plan was to head to Bialystok, Poland to visit a friend of mine, then continue south and make our way back a slightly more interesting way, we covered 9 countries total (including Romania) and the Jag didn't miss a beat! The temperatures were in the mid 30s in Eastern Europe at that time, thankfully the AC is excellent. We also did a 1500 mile trip to the Isle of Skye in May where it also performed fantastically. Hopefully it'll continue to do so under my ownership!

You know you hear about horror stories of things being thrown off motorway bridges?
Luckily I just have to change a headlight and it’s easy on this car. £35 for a used Mercedes replacement. Could have been much worse. It was some kind of bar. Maybe a spade handle. I only saw it for a tiny moment before it hit.
Be careful though, there are some knobs around. I reported it to 101 but I don’t know what they can really do about it!
The bonnet shut line is fine, it was just slightly ajar
Lucky escape there, as a truck driver i've had a lot of this and recently fireworks used like motars as i'm coming off of motorways are the latest thing i don't think they know how many people they could kill by being so f@cking stupidLuckily I just have to change a headlight and it’s easy on this car. £35 for a used Mercedes replacement. Touareg 5.0 £3625. There is a tale of immense woe in readers cars on a scruffy one, but this claims to be well cared for in the brief ad. Tempting just to say "I had one"...

Looking forward to the forecourt shot.
Goodness, the number of possible thread T-Shirt phrases really is getting long...
We shall see. Don't expect them. It does say part-ex possible in the advert....but if they're going to offer me something ridiculous like £800 they can f*ck off. I'd be happy with a max of £4500 plus my car, but ideally not more than £4250. I'm working this morning so can't get there until around 2:30pm.Goodness, the number of possible thread T-Shirt phrases really is getting long...

They're paying you £1800 to take it away? Otherwise for a car famed for regularly eating it's gearbox, the hills are the safe placehttps://www.gumtree.com/p/volvo/volvo-xc90-t6-lpg-...
A bit of idle Gumtree surfing turned up a few interesting examples I thought the thread might appreciate.
ML500 with sensible miles and in an attractive shade at £3.5k

E39 540i which looks stunning in this colour and only £2k. Sensible miles too.

Slightly over max at £5.5k example of the current thread barge-du-jour

And finally.... I don’t think this needs any introduction here. No curtains sadly! A simply epic way to spend 5 bags.
