I've just knocked up an ad for my early R129 and posted it in one of the usual places. Some eagle eyed threadists may remember that I threatened to sell it a while back, and a few asked me to post a notification them if the ad went live.

It's cheap, and needs work, but good thread fodder. It was purchased via these hallowed pages through an esteemed member, and hopefully may sell the same way. Just without the esteemed member bit.
It could definitely use some love, but good luck with the sale!

Sorry wink

I saw it and couldn't resist

An MOT'd SL-24 for under £2k is definitely a bargain.

I'll let you know later; it's only 15 miles away, so will call and hopefully take a look.

In the meantime, any pointers regarding checks of the known problems from RR experts would be welcome.
LOL. Easier to name the things that won't break.

Air suspension leaking/inactive
All electronics work in the car
Camshaft cover gasketsnju
Engine smoking
Being hse, the spec isn't great
Oil leaks
Gearbox working and smooth
Cam tensioner guides been replaced?
Good service history with regular oil changes

If it seems good overall them if they'd take 1500, you can easily break it for more.
Air suspension is a easy and cheap fix 99% of the time, mostly just dead sensors at £45 each. Even when it’s bag failure they are cheap now, compressors get rebuilt.

All electronics will never work, but they don’t on most sub £2k cars rammed full of them.

Don’t know much about the 4.4 as I keep buying the 3l diesel. I do know the chain can fail.

Gearboxes are however solid on the 4.4, it’s the diesel one which craps out all the time.

Buy a £200 tool to fault code read and you can keep one of these on the road for very cheap.
I have an 03 Vogue. The spec is not as good as you might hope though. No tv in the headrests and archaic sat nav. Heated seats front and back and heated wheel too make up for that.
It was beautifully smooth , fast, quiet and probably my most economical car as its on lpg.

However it's off the road while my son does the timing chains as the rattle was horrendous and they nearly wore through the cover. Looking forward to having it back on the road.
My wife has only ever driven it about 500 yards as 'it's too big'.

If I ever get rid of it I think I'd go for an lpg Cherokee or similar..

When I got it the back street dealer who sold it said there was no spare wheel due to the LPG tank and anyway 'would you want to be jacking this thing up in the dark by the side of the road?'
I have a Halfords compressor and 2 bottles of tyre gunk in the boot.

Good luck, if it's good you'll love it. Good for north Devon hedges as at least you can occasionally see something.

Catching up with this thread today, and I have lurched from from wanting an old Range Rover to an old ex-convertible Merc.

I love cars that are running but cheap due to “faults you can live with”. You can park them anywhere, use them and abuse them and still enjoy driving them with a smugness that’s they have cost you a few months lease payments on a boggo Golf.

I hope so too. We've lost a few of our number actually. r129sl posts comparatively rarely nowadays (although he might still be recovering from his epic steal of a G wagon deal) and bob-lad has definitely gone walkabout.

At least that irritating bloke E65Ross has disappeared. Coming here and soiling the thread with his Corolla nonsense; I'm glad we lost him. smile
I’m still here, CdeG, just got a lot on my plate as you know. Everyone here should have a G-wagen: very thread. Though a drive in the 124 today reminds me how a proper car drives.

Today I mostly saw (in a Waitrose car park) a Nissan QX. That's a car it's worth forgetting about. £2k. Not a looker.

If I hadn't just told my employer to park their job, I'd be at his door with the cash (and ignore any gearbox problems)

That's a £999 car at most in this day and age.

The original Maxima was handsome and well proportioned and I quite fancied the 3.0, but that one is a melted blob. Nissan also massacred the Primera in the same way sadly.

In the 80s I liked the 2.4 Laurel and also the 300C.

It's a cracker as is The Departed.

De Niro's driving and particular his facial expressions whilst driving, are pretty special.

That Abbott one is some motor. Definitely the kind of chap you’d want to buy from. Reassuring to see 14k has been put on it since the rebuild - usually cars only have 100 miles before they are flogged on because the work hasn’t gone quite so well.
