Crap car, but in Shed's defence there wasn't a great deal of interesting material available to choose from, when I looked through the classifieds yesterday trying to predict what would get chosen.
Wow, you have too much spare time. To add to the above, it's one of the few cars that actually look better as a 5-door. It's raining today, so one of these would be better than getting wet. Just.
Don’t actually think this is bad for the price. As mentioned above it’s the same engine as the vxr of the same period so a remap will see 200bhp... which for the money appears like a bit of a performance bargain.
Always had a strange want for the vxr, but stories of self destructing engines and wheel bearings put me off...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, and I won't be shaken from my belief:
Vauxhalls are for people who know nothing about cars.
There, I said it.
Also in this mix are Kia, Dacia & Hyundai......... just white goods for people who don't like public transport. Renault escape this (just) as they used to build some interesting stuff, but are really now just the motoring equivalent of £ shop tat.Vauxhalls are for people who know nothing about cars.
There, I said it.
Feeling Grumpy today......
the vxr nurb' and clubsport had decent writeups and some fairly exotic parts...
Somewhere deep in Luton there were some engineers that really wanted to do a great hot hatch...but the donor car and interior was guff and they were just to expensive....hope they moved onto Renault...or Lotus...(or maybe even the airport)

I don't know what everyone's problem is. What a car for the money!
Just needs a few quid spending on some springs to sort the handling, mahoosive zorst and remap to unleash some power (and some street cred). Oh, and an MOT. Probably decent fuel economy, bet it's reliable too given its a Vauxhall.
Ticks every box Vs that RX8 last week (which was universally criticised for fuel consumption, power and reliability).
As a car lover (and true PH lurker) I know which I'd rather......the RX8!

Almost anything would be better than this.
Not exactly slow but there's just no appeal.
A pity Vauxhall make such uninteresting cars these days. At one time they made hot hatches like the Astra 16V GTE, which for all its flaws had a superb, very tuneable 2 litre engine - the fastest hot hatch of its day.

debadge the doors
remap to 200+bhp
fit 1.2 badge to boot
It sounds a bit like the Alfa 4C talked about today - just needs a suspension kit (some VXR 888 springs and dampers) to transform it along with that remapremap to 200+bhp
fit 1.2 badge to boot
This was EVO mag’s take on the same vintage VXR 888
“A genuinely entertaining and capable chassis to enjoy.....”

Wasn’t the 888 bone hard? Seem to recall a fair amount of whinging at the time? This was EVO mag’s take on the same vintage VXR 888

Almost, but there’s a Maestro that would have something to say about thatNot exactly slow but there's just no appeal.

Ok I'll have a crack at it. There is no passion there. No soul. It's like the people who build them would rather be building white goods than cars. Even Fords which aren't the premium brand in the same league as BMW, you can tell the people who design them want to do the absolute best with what they have.
Vauxhall just seems like "We'll slap this stuff together and then go to the pub and look at the Bosch dishwasher website on our phones." The other half has an Astra company car, and it's just so poorly thought out. The rear vision is terrible, the driving position is almost impossible to get right unless you're exactly Mr Average and its flat, dull and bits keep falling off of it. The touch screen reacts with the same speed as an Apple newton, and it adds nothing to the car that you can't do from the normal controls. The engine sounds like they've put a chainsaw in a soundproofed box. The brakes have no feel and are extremely difficult to modulate. The steering is lifeless and like turning a wooden spoon in a bowl of porridge. The seats are like someone described a car seat to someone else who had never seen one, and then decided that it should be made out of cardboard with concrete instead of foam. The paint scratches when you breathe on it.
I wanted to write some good points about it, but I'm really struggling to think to be honest. The radio... works? It tends to start when you turn the key? To be honest after over 100 years of car manufacturing, you should be able to hold cars to a higher standard than that.
@Stu: Just for a laugh, google Corsa Gear Selector Linkage ... when I pushed my son's Corsa into the garage the other day, the owner rolled his eyes, said "not another one... this is the third this month, those gear linkage parts are made from chewing gum" . This from a small independent garage, not anywhere near a Vauxhall dealer... I don't understand this bit in the article;
'When the Corsa 'B' arrived in 1993, Vauxhall enthusiasts wondered where the equivalents of the Nova SR, GSI or GTE were . . .'
My old man Px'd his 85B Nova SR for a brand-new 94M Corsa SRi in the lovely Caribic Blue. Surely that was the logical replacement? If my old man was so minded, he could have got a GSi. But he's always been a warm hatch guy - Nova SR, Corsa SRi, Fiesta Zetec, MINI Cooper.
Anyway, regardless, this doesn't seem like too bad a SOTW I guess.

The PCP badge snobs are out in force today!
Never owned a Vauxhall, but there's clearly a market for them, so you produce for that market. As for that particular car, I agree with earlier comments that the owner should ideally take it for an MOT test and either pass or know what the issues are, but it's a nice enough looking, decent performance providing small car that will no doubt do someone a turn.
