BMW vs BMW

Is there any connection other than financial between BMW cars and BMW bikes? Do they share or collaborate on positioning of the brand/s?

The only similarities I can think of are the handlebar controller on the bikes being a bit like I drive, and the radiator cover on the early K bikes looking like the 'kidney' shape on the car grilles.
