I’m looking at getting an i30N. When running through figures today at a dealership, the salesman asked if anyone in my household already had a Hyundai as they’re currently offering an extra £2,000 towards all deposit contributions for people that already have a Hyundai in the household.

I told him that I didn’t, to which he said “well, could you have one between now and when you order?” Apparently, if I was to buy a stbox Getz for £250, have a V5 staying it is registered at my address, then I’ll get £2k (£1.75k after the Getz) towards my next car.

Has anyone done something similar to this? Surely this is a no brainier and just scrap the donor car after delivery of the i30N?

Buy the Getz, have the seller deliver it to the garage where you are buying your new car and leave it there. Tell the garage you want them to take it as a part exchange. Doesn't matter if they only give you £1 for it. Do the change of keeper and SORN it. Job done.

You often find that when maunfacturers offer significant loyalty bonus like this they also offer an equivalent alternative called a conquest bonus. This would be for anyone trading from a different make. Might be worth asking the question!

I spoke to Hyundai a few months ago as they were offering £2000 scrappage against an i20. However, they were also offering a very similar discount if you didn't have a scrappage car under a different discount scheme.

The point I am making is I am certain they will offer that discount without having to go through the hassle of buying a Getz. Can you not go to another dealer and say yes there is another car in your household, I am sure they won't care about evidence.

Or just go on drive the deal, I am sure you will get a bigger discount anyway.

They have already stated they need a V5 with my address on it as proof.

With regards to drive the deal, no one is going to get close to the deal they’ve offered me. It’s pretty much the best deal I’ve ever seen on an i30N on a 4 year lease.

Not sure about Hyundai but some of the other manufacturers require you to have the V5 of the trade in in your name / address for at least 90 days to qualify.

As silly as it seems it would appear your best option is to buy the cheapest Hyundai you can possibly find and then trade it in as a PX against your purchase.

Went to check this today and clarify, nothing in the Ts &Cs concerning minimum amount of time to be registered which is odd in my opinion.

Not bad, lowest I can find is a £325 Getz with 3 months MOT! Keeping my eye out for a bargain over the next week

Do you have to actually own the car though? V5 is just registration, remember.

I'm sure there'd be someone out there (presumably someone driving one into the ground so not fussed about number of owners etc) willing to put the V5 in your name until the discount was secured for much less than £250.

If this is the deal with bury Hyundai, I wondered the same thing. The 90 day rule applies though, makes it tough to do unless you find someone to front it for you

Ts and Cs state V5 only, doesn't have to be my car, just registered at my address. Could potentially do what you're suggesting but finding someone to trust me like that might take more time than I have unfortunately. Also been told I can part ex the car for minimum £100 so barely losing anything at all.

Wessex Garages in Newport/Cardiff. However I'm currently talking to a Bristol dealer with a better contribution.

90 day rule does NOT apply, had this confirmed by three seperate garages.

Also if anyone is wondering why the replies are coming from different accounts, I have different accounts logged in on different browsers and can't be bothered changing them! Delboy769 and Delahorney are the same person.

I would chat to the dealer, say ‘I do want the Hyundai, but going to the faff of buying an old one and trading that in is crazy, how about a straight conquest sale discount?’. Always have an alternative to buy, and be prepared to walk away.

Didn't think of the conquest discount, just put my holding deposit down on the car. Wonder if I can change it retroactively, probally not eh.

Ask about the Affinity scheme. Due to your work what ever it maybe you may qualify for extra discounts.

TBH I used car wow and got my i30n sub £25k. Play dealers against each other I have seen one offering a car at £22k. How they are making anything I have no idea.

I have also looked at anther car (Tucson) but only offering £1.5k off on them

Tried all that! Thank you though. Mine came in at just over £21k in the end which I'm happy with at delivery miles etc.

I'm struggling to find anything with an MOT and logbook for less than £300. I guess I'd you phoned them though maybe negotiate another £50 off if you wanted to be cheeky
