I think it's quite clever of Ford. Those that revere the Mustang brand are least likey to but an EV. See Honest John article

So Ford start from a position of SUVs are what people want, EV is the future and some people will want a performance/ish version. Not for me but I can appreciate the logic.

Second, the range, even if its truthful, and in all weather conditions, is still useless.
The extended range one will travel further than my car will on a tank of fuel. A genuine 300 miles plus makes it pretty useable for a large number of people. There will always be outliers who travel from one end of the country to the other without stopping etc.I do get the point about charging. It’d work for me because I have a drive where a charger could be installed. However there are lots of people who park on the street etc. EV’s won’t work for them.

The GT version sounds like it'll have the performance but not the range I need.

My son - 17 and just about to take his driving test - only cares about electric cars, which are deeply cool and interesting to him in the same way the ICE cats are deeply uncool and old. He’s applying for mechanical engineering at Uni, this is the future folks.
He’s even making me question my adherence to ICE, and until 6 months ago I owned three V8s.
Without meaning to be rude, his opinion might well change once he can actually drive and has driven some proper cars. He’s even making me question my adherence to ICE, and until 6 months ago I owned three V8s.
Also electric is far from the only possibility going into the future. I was reading that there is a lot of research being done into bio fuel from algae, for example.
I personally feel, and I could be wrong of course, that electric might be superseded or atleast rivalled by a renewable flammable fuel.
I certainly have my fingers firmly crossed!

It's just a shame I don't really want a Tesla, but think I'll end up getting one anyway until the rest of the competition narrows the performance gap.

Burning stuff is old and bad, if anything kids will start seeing ICE cars in a poorer light over time.
