Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc? (Vol. 3)
Discussion
Thanks for the kind words above chaps, it’s a bit daunting making videos, but I’m trying to just make stuff I enjoy making and give a small snippet when I get the opportunity to do cool stuff. A hypercar and actually new brand launch is an amazing opportunity and seemed too good to miss.

This is incredibly different to those other cars, it’s had over $150 million of development, it’s actually driving around already and settings proper benchmarks during testing. I’ve spent a good amount of time around them now (as I have for many other hypercar brands) and these guys are here to stay. It’s honestly just the beginning!Add to the list of Arash supercars, the Keating supercar from Bolton and everything else that is all mouth and no trousers.

Doing the photo shoots for the new Czinger Hypercar that’s been all over the news channels this week.
Looking very cool and relaxed in front of the camera, very irritating
.....and the most dapper and stylish youtuber it seems. Not like all the other brit tubers running around in their Balenciaga hoodies and looking like they are 16 year old. https://youtu.be/9zWDX1eH6zQ

16 years old means they are getting Paid earlier..Edited by KJH on Saturday 22 February 09:07
...in any case, I'm enjoying Savage Garage at the moment. Randy is interested in interesting cars, unlike some other YTers who just go for the same old McLarens etc. Some nice 'classic' GT-Rs are being hailed out.

Archie Hamilton's latest video on his GT3 RS , where he says he's going to keep it, but if someone offers him enough money he will sell it
Yes, for anyone who's thinking of watching it, don't bother. Its basically a 10 minute Autrotrader advert for his GT3 RS which he's failing to sell (by the sounds of it because the price is too high). I foolishly started watching it and switched off after the very fake "oh look its still only 6000 miles on it" Hats off to all the youtubers........., Had the pleasure of working with Hampshire Photography last week and honestly the work rates these guys put in is incredible and to still come across smooth as................
Yet there's me feeling so nervous about being anywhere near the camera. Way more so than being a passenger around Goodwood at some very quick speeds ...................
Pssssss...............Ive been out with some great drivers and Luke is pretty dam talented.....

The Shmee bashing on here is so utterly pathetic. I can see why some wouldn't watch his content but go and watch MoVlogs or Morgz or thousands of other YouTubers if you really want horrendously bad and inane content.
It amazes me sometimes that Tim is still willing to take the time to reply to people who make such idiotic and poorly considered posts, often with oddly childish personal attacks and silly nicknames thrown in for good measure or to try and get a rise from him.
Glad he does post though as his insights into how YouTube works etc are genuinely interesting and detailed and far more than any other YouTuber has ever contributed to this thread. I watch a very limited number of his videos but read all of his posts on here with interest as they provide a very different view on the YouTube world.
The thing is, he's going to get bashed as his content is really not the sort of thing the average PHer will enjoy. It's so dumbed down now, plus he spends half the video giggling at the camera in lots of the videos. It amazes me sometimes that Tim is still willing to take the time to reply to people who make such idiotic and poorly considered posts, often with oddly childish personal attacks and silly nicknames thrown in for good measure or to try and get a rise from him.

He's a nice guy and good on him for posting on here, it really is interesting to hear from him, but to say the bashing is pathetic is a bit OTT don't you think?

This has of course been discussed at length here and elsewhere, however it can't get more simple than this analogy.
If you have a high street shop selling two different types of products; item A that you personally like and item B that you don't care for. Your customers are flocking to buy item B and they are selling like hotcakes, yet nobody really wants to buy item A despite your efforts other than a few really vocal tyre-kicking customers.
Do you: 1) Stick to your guns and only excessively stock up on item A because it's what you believe they should be buying even though they aren't. Or do you 2) Put as much of item B on the shelves because you can make huge sales and your business will make much larger profits. Or 3) Listen to forum users of Pistonheads because how could data and analytics possible be correct
It's easy to forget that Shmee is the character that I, Tim, choose to present for the optimisation of the business that I am running. Of course that is never going to be to everybody's tastes, but nor is it supposed to be, and the general demographic of Pistonheads is far and wide from what I am going for. The content is carefully calculated, planned, scripted and published to find the balance that my team and I choose as the route to go down which is more one of informed entertainment and not one of being a technical car journalist. The stats don't lie, we have a very good idea of who is following and watching on a global scale. The world does not revolve around purely the users of PH, or even just the UK, it is a much, much bigger place and fortunately it's proving to be very successful the way it is.
Personally I was a good fan of your exploits and would enjoy watching the videos you posted. For me the turning point was when you did the US trip and just tried too hard to appease that market place with lots of pointing at supercars and revving exhausts. You turned from a person with knowledge and a passion to something off CBBs. At that point there you lost 1 subscriber. Big deal you probably gained 1000 new ones in that minute alone, but it isnt so much about the numbers...so you gained 1000 people within the US that are possibly between 10 and 20. Is that who the advertisers or car suppliers want to have as your audience? JayLeno hasnt adopted the same approach...he has stuck to his guns and kept to the script. And he can hold his head high and hasnt become a sell out.If you have a high street shop selling two different types of products; item A that you personally like and item B that you don't care for. Indeed Tim you can please the mass market, but in the same way the spice girls were extremely popular in the 90s and sold out to anyone that would listen to them....but where are they now? Failing Fashion business, married to an F1 manager, Still a Caricature from Bo' Selecta and got with Eddie Murphy and now a radio DJ.
Instead you have the rolling stones who just keep going stayed true to themselves and didnt fizzle out. They are the ones we talk about and remember.
So yes you can go for an analogy of mass selling, and it worked for Cabbage patch kids or Tamagotchi but where are they now? Total mass hysteria for a short period of time...but a one trick pony that no one talks about other than the weird person who collected them all and is probably called Doris.

So the guy worth $350 million who's a household name and who doesn't make a living from YouTube can afford to stick to his guns. Pretty easy not to sell out when you are that wealthy As for the rest, I'm sure Shmee will one day have to adapt but expecting him to change his entire business model today in case it stops being successful in future seems a bit mental
