I hope that doesn't mean too many more hybrid SUV videos. I always enjoy a Harry video, but I can't agree with his conclusion that a behemoth of an X5 with both heavy electric and IC systems represents the near future of motoring and isn't simply a work around for fleet emission fines.

He is right though, they work for most people. Can pootle to the shops, into the next town etc all on electric and no cost. If you need to go further you have the ICE to get you there. For me it would be ideal, however they're waaaaay too expensive at the moment. thecremeegg said:

For me it would be ideal, however they're waaaaay too expensive at the moment. The BIK tax is tiny, big win - but both the electric and petrol propulsion are compromised.
The battery is too small - big enough to still classify for tax/ULEV benefits, but not really useful unless you do 10 miles a day in stop start traffic.
The ICE is a bit unrefined and not that fuel efficient on longer journeys where it provided the majority of the propulsion.
If it had a smaller but more modern engine, and larger capacity battery it would be better, but longer term I still think that Hydrogen fuel cell is where we will end up. Hybrids are still a stop-gap until either battery tech has a breakthrough or Fuel Cell becomes supported.
(that's before the whole cradle to grave "carbon footprint" is considered - waaay off topic though!)

All manufactures are having to meet these new EU emission rules as the fines for not doing so are huge. My worry is manufactures are fully focussed on hitting sub <95gCO2/km (actual figure varies for each manufacture thanks to an almost unfathomable formula), rather than on the customer. But customers continue to buy SUVs in huge numbers, while sales of sports cars and convertibles continue to dwindle, to the point they are now seen as niche markets. My thoughts are cars like the X5 45e are better solution for most people than a pure BEV SUV, like the Tesla Model X. The downside to this sudden rush to low CO2 emitting vehicles is the current 2.5t, 4WD, family-size SUV isn't the best starting point to create a low polluting vehicle but if that's what customers want to buy, then that's what manufactures have to sell. It's be interesting to see if Lotus can find a light(er) weight solution to this SUV conundrum; we'll know the answer in a few years time..

its the youtube dilema, if you want views you have to cover modern stbox drive candy like the X5Tim said one of his worst videos was the jag lightweight (still under 100k views 2017) his C8 video has had 550k views in under a week

Harry, Have you considered doing a "cool Wall" in your hanger/garage akin to top gears cool wall but in your case only of cars you have reviewed on Harrys garage? It would be a good way to make a quick low cost/effort short weekly upload and help keep the algorithm working in your favour. Just do a 5 cars to the cool wall per week and link the your past reviews/uploads to drive traffic to them. Also you could do a 'The Harry score' akin to The Doug (Demuro) score in the same upload of the 5 cars to the cool wall etc.
I would like to see Harry doing something in the podcast domain... I find myself able to watch/listen to anything he uploads. I'm sure it would be successful, I'm just not sure what niche he could plonk himself in to do it. I'm sure he wouldn't want to step on the toes of the Collecting Cars podcast, having been a guest!
In the meantime I will continue to play my game of "Spot the Clio Trophy" in the background of his other vids.

Catchpole and Harry are the only youtube channels that give proper insightful reviews that offer a true alternative to the written media IMHO.
Harry’s videos are simply great watching and insightful. For me he touches on the points that matter. Old dogs are still relevant Munka01 said:
I am interested to know the age of people on here that enjoy Harry's content?
I have tried a few times to watch different content of his (purely because he gets a lot of attention here) and still haven't made it it the end of a video, it just doesn't seem to engage me.
I am 34.
I love Harry’s car and farming videos, I’m 42. I have tried a few times to watch different content of his (purely because he gets a lot of attention here) and still haven't made it it the end of a video, it just doesn't seem to engage me.

You don't have long to go.

Heads up to any of the Collecting Cars listeners (and old EVO fans), new one is up with Bovingdon.
I listened to it today. It was thoroughly enjoyable and as much as I enjoy Top Gear, I do prefer monkey when he's more himself like this. I get it's for TV etc. but this is how I've always known his presenting style to beGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
