RE: Polestar 1 | Driven
Discussion
Problem will be that while it looks great and interior looks nice its using Volvo tech so that means awful old tech sat nav and digital dials, useless parking sensors, awful gearbox mapping etc. Yes I speak from experience as a current v90 owner, in a V90 is maddening enough but in a 140k car is unforgivable.
I think its looks fantastic, but the article is right, that screen does now look a bit dated when compared to latest and greatest from Mercedes and similiar.
However, at £140k I think that's quite a lot for a S80 platform with a very complicated drivetrain and over 2T in weight.
I wonder if they have sold all of the allocation of cars. I imagine that collectors will buy them and I will be very surprised if we see them on the road.

I like it, but the pricing and brand-stretching is bonkers.
It is a Volvo C90 if it is anything. It should therefore have an aspirational RRP of about £60k but then be available for about £40k new. Who's going to pick this - Volvo seats, nav, steering, lights etc. and all - over a Continental?

I loved the original 2013 coupe concept, and hope there is a C70 replacement at some point.
However, glad that the Polestar brand has got out of the blocks with this halo model. No doubt spread over 1500 units, this is selling as a loss leader.
It's an odd choice for a company that so clearly states it will be an EV vehicle company after this model - so why put something so complex into production?
Well, I love the looks. In my eyes it's up there with the Peugeot e Legend concept for a mixture of retro/future styling

Can't get passed the price on this. Looking at the inside (the bit you see most of the time) it's not that special, the outside is OK (bar the gopping grille) and the engine (ICE bit) just 2 litres, if you were asked to price it up and not told about the electrickery, batteries, supercharger/turbo, CF etc what price would you put on it....£50k, £60k max at a push, you would have to explain to everyone why it cost £140k. Nope.

Remember that this thing started its life as the utterly gorgeous (to my eyes, anyway) Volvo Coupe Concept back in 2013?
I'm glad polestar made this, but I'd have been happier still if it had made it to market as a C70 with less fancy tech in it. That way I might have been able to actually buy one. This is - and with 1500 units made, will remain - well out of my price range.
Still, Imagine Volvo build quality, looks like that, that old 2.3 litre turbo 5... A man can dream.
Looks so much better with the badge on the grill. Handsome looking car IMO. You lot who say this is beautiful or handsome... I agree.
And isn't it interesting how others instantly or instinctively feel that it's unattractive. Personal preference and all that.
The price, regrettably, is off the charts -- although I'm aware that Polestar is meant to be select in what it offers and to whom it offers. I do wonder if they will sustain this very niche price / value in the years ahead.
This looks superb, and with only 1500 being produced I can’t see it troubling any of the haters with an opportunity to claim they would’ve bought one, but the car is just too this or too that. The 1500 will am sure be snapped up v rapidly, if they haven’t been already. Nice one Polestar, roll on the P2
Looks stunning. At sensible money I would have one in a heartbeat, with or without ev powertrain.
Now here is a thought, as people have commented on styling similarities with the mustang, and it fitting the same gt remit... how much do Zagato et al charge to rebody a car? We have approx £100k in the imaginary budget. Volvo s90 lights are available from your local dealer. Alternatively what would it cost to cut and shut a s90 then do a roof chop?

Looks fabulous to me. Would love a version with a basic petrol V6 powertrain and steel body for £60k...
Yes, it’s great that a cracking concept car has gotten to see the light of day in some capacity, but considering it was a phenomenal S90 coupe in style, and half of its parts are S90, it’s a shame they decided to waste the design by using it on something that barely anybody will ever even see and therefore is basically irrelevant. It’s also not special enough of a design to justify its fancy powertrain or carbon body or price. Shame. Would have absolutely loved the chance to get one with a normal engine. It’ll never happen now.

One car tends to cost about £1-2m in design and component manufacture. Up to you if you want to increase that by another few hundred K to cover the cost of making more than a handful of parts and gamble on managing to sell at least 25 at £100k each.
